Guys, My Return Passport tracker activated yesterday and Passport is out for delivery today to the destination.

I am planning to visit India sometime in November or December this year. Should I do my landing before I leave or is it advisable to do it upon my return ? I am confused before PR Card processing time is nearly more than 2 months and I understand I can't leave Canada till I get it.

Since, I am living in Saskatchewan, I am planning to do my landing procedure on North Portal location. Can somebody from Regina or Saskatchewan area please advise or share experience on what is the Transportation way to reach to North Portal from Regina, What are the timings to do landing at border and What documents should I carry with me ?

Do I need an appointment for landing ?

Thank you guys once again !
Well, your situation is dicey. The choice is up to you.

(1). First check the duration of the visa. If it is up to 6 months, then you can afford to travel to India & then land on your way back. Meanwhile, if your passport has less than 6 months to expire, they will only give you a 3 to 4 months visa. That will be risky for you. In my case, my visa was for 5 months. I went back home to renew my passport & then landed. Officer stamped the old passport for PR @ d border instead of the new one.

(2).WARNING!!! If you are not yet married, don't ever make the mistake of getting married in India while you've not yet done your landing. If you marry & you land, you cannot bring your spouse to Canada anymore. You must contact the visa office and send them his/her information. They will start his/her own process. It may be delayed for up to 6 months or more. Meanwhile, you have to figure out how to get back to Canada without landing ;D

(3). I sincerely don't think the processing of PR card can take more than 3 months. So you can land say this weekend (if you have your visa) and then plan your trip for End of December. I'm also from Saskatchewan. To get to North Portal US Border, just drive towards Estevan from Regina. You continue to drive further down until you get to North Portal.

Hope this helps! This is just my own humble opinion.

Hi Coshx,

Thank you brother for your information. I have my passport valid till August 2020 and I have been working in Regina for more than a year now and When I renewed my work permit, I got close work permit till December 2014 based on my employment and I renewed my worker visa as well, which is valid till December 2014 as well same as my work permit. However, when I got my passport yesterday, the new immigrant visa has expiry date of April 5, 2014 ( I don't know what is this expiry date). So I have two visas at a moment 1. Worker visa valid till December 2014 and Immigrant till April 2014, Am I eligible to travel outside canada and comeback before I do my landing here ?

Secondly, I am planning to do my landing in next day or so but I have plans for marriage sometime in November or December in India. Can I bring my Spouce back here in Canada after marriage if I have done my landing in Canada before marriage but no PR Card ?

Your information would highly be appreciated.

Thanks,

DK

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your information. I have most likely plan for November last week or December first week for India visit and I am most likely planning to get married during my trip, So can I travel to India and get married over there if I have done my landing here in Canada but with NO PR Card in hand ? Though I have close work permit valid till December 2014 and based on my work permit I have worker visa valid till December 2014.

Would I be able to bring my spouce upon my return from India, If I do my landing right now ?

your information would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

DK

DK, In this case i would suggest you to Land yourself first and then goto india even if you dont receive your PR card. When you goto India, apply for travel document which u get in 2-3 weeks. problem solved. Dont risk your P R by waiting to land after coming from India.

Well, technically your temporary residence visa (TRV) has been nulified by the PR visa. Yes. You can go to India & then land on your way back. Note: I doubt if you can tell officer that you are not landing now & you want to use your TRV. From my understanding, once you have the PR visa, any other Canada Visa becomes null & void. Well, I may be wrong.

Meanwhile, since you are going to india to marry, I will advise you to land in Canada first. Get your PR card & then go home to marry. You can't just bring your spouse to Canada after landing. You have to sponsor her. Well, you can apply for visiting visa for her before you submit her application for PR. If she's granted, then she can come to Canada. Then you file for her. Meanwhile, I do not know the procedure of NDVO about sponsorship if they will also request for spouse's passport & keep for 3 months before visa is issued. The average time for sponsorship is 7 months...Every visa office is different.

Hope this helps!

Hi Sandyboy388,

I'm still waiting for the PR card. When I called on Thursday, I was told my card was mailed to my office & my wife's card mailed to the house.

I'm looking forward to receiving the card today.

lolss...I'm still expecting the Card. You wouldn't believe I went as far as pasting postal code on street lighting so they won't miss the house.

I'm hoping to get it today. It's 5 business days today since it was sent from Sydney, NS.

Hi sandyboy388,

When I checked Canadapost website, letter mail from Halifax to Saskatoon takes 4 business days, excluding the day it was sent. So, they usually advise to wait 5 business days. Today makes it 5 business days for me & i'm getting so tensed. I just want to have this card & move on.

Anyways, we already have it. It's just patience. It is well.

Guys,

I have an urgent travel coming in first week of October to India. I landed on 20July, 2013 but havent received my PR card yet.

Current processing time is 75 calendar days, and I am not sure which ssolar system do they follow :-[

Does anyone (so lucky here) got his/her PR card before their said processing time.???
Does anyone applied for PRTD from India (Chandigarh) and know how long does it take for them to process your TD.??
Can I ask my friend to send me my PR card from here to india through DHl/Fedex.

Please suggest what should I do in this case. Thanks in advance.

Well, I will advise you to give CIC a week after the 75 days for them to send the Card to you. Then, you wait atleast 5 days to receive the Card. I can't say anything about the processing time as long as this PAFSO strike is ongoing. Now it's 75 days, who knows what it will be next week?

Take heart. you will soon get your card.

Hi Sandyboy388,

I just received my PR card now...Hope you get yours today as well. It is 83 days today after landing. PR card was mailed out 76 days after landing.

For others still waiting, I'll advise you give 2 weeks after your PR processing time.
