Hi guys,

I have been working in Canada for a little bit over a year now, and I was planning to travel outside Canada for 3-4 months, where I will still be working but remotely. Will this count towards the Canadian experience or do I have to be physically in Canada?

Thanks

You have to be physically in Canada. This will count as foreign work experience.

Even tho it is a Canadian company and I'm paying Canadian taxes?
I'm only outside of Canada for tourism on visitor visa to the other countries not residing there.

Yes, it still counts as foreign work experiences.

Quite a stupid rule but that’s how IRCC works.

If there wasn’t a rule it would be similar to FSWP when you can be working for a Canadian employer but abroad although maybe not paying Canadian taxes. Being on Canadian soil and integrating into Canada is what is rewarded by CEC.

The fact that working for 2-3 weeks a year remotely doesn't count is somewhat stupid.

The o/p stated three - four months Einstein

Ok Sir Isaac Newton. My point was in general, IRCC excludes even a 2 week remote trip from Canadian experience.
Enlighten me please, what difference does it make to your Canadian experience whether you work for 2-4 weeks remotely versus inside Canada?
That's right, no actual difference. Only politics.

Hi Scylla,

Can I claim 2 yr Canadian and 1 yr foreign experience points for the below:

- 9 months work experience in a India for Indian employer (June 2018 to March 2019)
- 2 Years Canadian experience inside Canada for Canadian employer (July 2021 to July 2023)
- 4 months remote work experience inside Canada for Indian employer (August 2023 to Dec. 2023) (Along with this job I was also doing Uber in August and Sept. and in Oct., Nov. and Dec. I worked for a Canadian employer for which I won't be claiming points)

Hello, Did you get any answer to this. I am in the same position. Need to know if my work experience for indian employer will count towards FSW working remotely from canada.

Hi Kesri, I was wondering how you proeceeded with this? I am in a similiar situation with the exception that I was working for US employer remotely from Canada and unsure if I can claim foreign work experience for that.

What permit are you on in Canada? Do you get T4 and do your paystubs have EI/CPP/taxes deducted? If not, it is not Canadian experience.

I am on my PGWP. My question was more so about whether it can be counted towards my foreign experience.
