Does fellowship count as work experience?

If I get a letter stating that I was a fellow at my university, worked 20 hours/week for one year and received X amount for this work (it was below the minimum wage in my country, but I did receive money monthly), and all the information that CIC asks to be in the letter, would that count towards my work experience time?
The work I did in the fellowship is related to my current profession, so it would fit in my NOC type.

Provided it was within the last 10 years in a NOC 0/A/B position, yes. 20 hours/week for 1 year would equate to about 8 months of full time work experience.
