Does duration of visit in application determine visa validity?

Hi,

I'm an Indian citizen in India and would like to apply for a Canadian visitor visa (TRV). In the application form, there is a section that asks for the duration of visit(specific TO: and FROM: dates).
Is the visa validity given for this duration or is the duration always for 6 months? Please let me know, I'm planning to apply for the visa in a couple of days.

Thanks.

I don't think "duration" mentioned will make any difference as TRV is granted for 6 months mostly, in some case, tho I'm not sure which ones, are granted more than 6 months. For instance, 9 or 12 months.

Its best to mention your duration as short as possible in case you are only intending to travel for tourism. That speaks volumes to VO that you intend to return to home country.

Try to show accommodation and return tickets if possible. All these add up to positiveness.
I have been researching for a while and on the verge of applying for TRV so this is just my suggestion here.

I hope others have better opinion. Good luck.
