My husband's medical ran our Jan7, 2010. We have not received a medical re-do yet. They said if one was necessary they would send the forms out soon. Its been over a month and no forms yet. I would thought they would have asked for one by now. Is it possible that they could extend the old medical or has too much time passed?

It is my understanding that the medical is only good for 12 months and must be valid at the time of landing. It will have to be re-done as it is not possible to extend them.

I know they have forms for the redue Boyee but you can also use the same one you used at the begining juts down load it off the site and go get the medical redone,as you dont want to waste anymore time on this process. If you use the one of the site it just has a few test the other doesnt so if you do use it it is more than they require so it will be good.

Somebody on this board was saying earlier today that they might not always ask for a new medical if the one they have is expired. I suppose it could be true. Immigration officers seem to have a lot of discretion about how they apply the rules in each individual case.

Well seeing as your visa expiry is the same date as your medical expiry i dont see how that could be true.

Thats the reason why I posted the question. I had read somewhere on here that not always do they ask and often extend the medical. They started processing us on June 11th . I would have thought we would have gotten a request for new medical by now. Unless that IO wants to drag things on and on since I complained about her. ::)

Check out this manual that I found on CIC's website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english//resources/manuals/op/op15-eng.pdf

Specifically look under "Medical Validity" and possibilities of extension....

6.1. Medical validity
Medical validity is the period during which the results of an immigration medical examination
remain valid. Validity of medical examinations reflects the likelihood of an applicant's health
condition changing and the risk of acquiring diseases of public health importance. Validity is
normally twelve months from the date of an immigration medical examination or chest x-ray,
whichever took place first. Normally, a new complete or partial medical examination to rule out
danger to public health and safety must be undertaken if the medical validity has expired. In
certain cases, medical validity may be extended. This may be done in consultation with the
regional medical officer.

We are experiencing a similar case. My husband's medical results expire 5 weeks after his interview. I don't know how they will be treating his case...I guess I just have to be patient enough to wait until he goes to the interview and we have some answers!!

Best of luck SCsquare. I hope your interview will be easy, relaxing, and a closer step to your PR :) - any idea why they requested an interview for you? how did you prepare for it? My husband and I haven't really prepared yet..............!

I have a similar case...medical expired in April. Just received letter from Buffalo advising that "medical results have been received" and no other documents/information is needed at this time -- no request (yet) for new medicals. Also received paperwork to pay the RPRF yesterday. So time will tell if they will request a new one, or extend these results.

I was under the impression that the VISA is good until the expiration of your passport, not your medical exam...no? I could be wrong on this one...

The visa is issued until the expiration of your passport OR the expiration of the medical, whichever one is sooner.

It's interesting that although your medical is expired they said no need for other documents at this time. Keep us updated!

3 more weeks until our interview...ahhhhh!!!

Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification!
(what would I do without this forum?)

I don't have the link, but I have read two or possibly three cases on this forum where at the discretion of the IO the medical expiry was extended so the person could land without having to re-do the medical. That's why in the manual it says "validity is normally 12 months", which means it can be extended, or shortened if they feel like doing that. I imagine if a person goes to their interview and is hacking coughing like they have TB, the IO can also demand another medical done sooner than 1 year.

I think it's worth asking about at your interview. If there is one thing I have learned during this process it's that no two visa offices are alike, no two IOs are alike and no two cases are alike. The IOs seem to be able to do whatever they please, in whatever time line they please!

Well my husband medical ran out on Jan7 2010. so I dont expect they will be letting us off and extending it. Maybe if it were a couple of months but its been 7 so I doubt very much we could be that lucky. Just want this over with ASAP.

Thats exactly it Boyee,it is always up to them.I think in most cases if your medical is going to or is expired close to the date they think they will have it finished they just let it ride.Im not sure after that how they would figure out the date to expire youre visa, would they give you a month or weeks?
