Do I renew my PR card now?

Hi,

This year I'm planning of renewing my expired PR Card.

Here's my story,

1. Landed immigrant Feb 2008
2. Left Canada July 2008
3. Returned to Canada July 2012 and still here
4. PR card expired March 2013

I would like to know if I can apply for renewal now or wait till July 2014 (2 years residency count)?

Hi

You must wait until 2014 when you have 730 days and meet the residency obligation. If you were to apply now, you'd most likely end up with your PR status revoked.

If you try to apply now, they will look at the past 5 years and see that from January 2009 - January 2014, you spent 1 year and 6 months. Therefore, you are missing 6 months to meet your RO.

You better wait until July when you have your 2 years done.
