Hi guys! Im confused. I got married in the philippines last march. I will sponsor my husband and i am currently in canada. Im a PR. Do i need to change my name and marital status in order for me to sponsor him? Someone told me that she knew someone who did not change her family name and status while sponsoring her husband and it got delayed. Any thoughts/answers for this? Thank you!!!
You DO NOT need to change your last name. You can, if you want change your status in your Passport, but that will mean applying for a new passport from your home country's embassy. That will take days if not months. Also, changing names may complicate matters because of different names in different documents.
Since you are a PR, you have to reside in Canada while you submit the application for spousal sponsorship. The important thing is that you have to provide proof that the marriage is genuine. So, provide marriage certificate, pictures of marriage ceremony (not video), pictures of you two visiting some places together after marriage, your correspondence with him such as e-mail log, skype log, facebook conversation etc.
