Hi Guys,

I need some information on obtaining a police certificate from Pakistan. I was 4 years old when I moved out from Pakistan to Sri Lanka and have been here for my entire life. I have visited Pakistan on and off but never been there for more than 6 months all together.

Especially since I turned 18 I have been in Pakistan for less than 3 months. So my question is do I need a certificate regardless because I am still a Pakistan National?

CIC rules state that you must provide police certificate where you have stayed for more than six months. Considering that as you are also citizen of Pakistan. You have to obtain it. From which city are you? Maybe I can guide.

I am from Multan, thanks for your consideration.

I am in the same situation - Haven't lived in Pakistan since I turned 18 and even before that - I am not providing a PCC since the instructions are to provide a PCC for places you have lived 6 months (cumulatively) since turning 18 or in the last 10 years. I don't think you need one personally since they would specify requiring a PCC from country or origin/citizenship. This is not the case based on my reading of the instructions.

Go to your nearest police department(not police station) . Get the form. Fill it up. Attach photographs, cnic copies. Get an affidavit made from nearest oath commissioner office(any lawyer can do that). After that submit it at the same place. You will get your police certificate in like 10 days.

I dont't think CIC mentions 18 or last 10 years for Police certificate. Not sure. Can you share the link

here you go and the ten years part is in the ITA instructions in MyCIC I believe.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/security/police-cert/intro.asp

In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate.

You may need a police certificate from any country or territory that you have spent six months or more since the age of 18.

For example: if you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.

If you need a police certificate from a country or territory and:

are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.

That is where my confusion arises, the 18 years and older part. I will keep looking and try calling the embassy here to see if they can clarify this as well. If i do get any information will update you all aswell.

Actually, this is correct and very clear. You will not need PCC from Pakistan since you havent spent more than 6 months there since the age of 18.

If CIC require it the may ask for it during the process, but based on their instruction you dont need it. Sorry for the confusion.

Here is my summary of the PCC instruction:

Where does it state to provide a PCC if you're a citizen even if you didn't live for more than 6 months?

As part of a complete application, applicants, their spouse or common-law partner and their dependent children 18 years of age or older (including non-accompanying dependents) must submit a valid police certificate for all countries or territories (except Canada) in which they have lived for a total of six months or more, since the age of 18.

Since the age of 18 if you lived in pakistan for more than 6 months all together you would need a PCC. If you're a citizen of pakistan and have not lived there for more than 6 months since the age of 18 you do not need a PCC. That would be a unnecessary document. I am a Citizen of India lived in Dubai my entire life but since i turned 18 i did not live in India or Dubai collectively for more than 6 months. I did not provide one even though i was told repeatedly by my friends to put one just to be on the safe side.. and my application is in the final stages.
