Do I include my sponsor on General Application Form under question "Dependents"?

It asks how many people in the application. Do I include my sponsor here? (2) And if so, then the form requires details filled in as "dependents".
Please help.
Thank you,
Laura

It tells you to include your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable. It is not applicable as your sponsor does not need you in order to come to Canada. Already a citizen/permanent resident.

Maybe should tell you this now also, as you will stumble upon the same thing under the form "Additional Family Information".
Do NOT list your spouse or common-law partner here if your spouse/common-law partner is your Canadian sponsor, but you will need to list all of your family members, EVEN if they aren't accompanying you to Canada.

Hope that helps, and this:

Excellent info, thank you so much! I had included my spouse on additional family information. I missed the (if applicable) part.
Cheers,
Laura

This was one of the biggest questions for me in my application...the not so obvious `instruction' to this frickin' form for a spouse or CL partner.

Would it have killed them to simply state in the guide, exactly what you stated?!?!

I was soooo tempted to send two versions of IMM5406 (one with and one without my Canadian CL sponsor listed) and say "Pick whichever one is correct"! :-\

Yeah +1 for me! lol
The guide is helpful sometimes, but where it is lacking in info, this forum comes in handy.
Only thing I am still not sure of is how to label the friggin immigration photos. I am from Western Europe, and it just says attach 8 photos, for mroe details see Appendix B, where it only shows how the photographer should take the photos..

Here's what the guide for sponsoring a spouse/common-law partner/children who lives outside Canada says about the Additional Family Information: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp#3999E4

As you can see, it does not state anywhere that "you don't include your spouse/common-law partner if they are your Canadian sponsor". This form is to capture all your family members (spouse/common-law partner, children, brothers & sisters, parents).

So if you are married/common-law, your spouse/common-law partner's name(who is your Canadian sponsor) goes in line 2. Otherwise, write N/A. We have a lawyer representing us and has not told us this is incorrect.

When it comes to the "Dependents" section of form IMM 0008, it says right above the question that, "include your spouse/common-law partner and children who are NOT already Canadian citizens or permanent residents". So your sponsor and any children who are citizens/PRs should not be listed here.

Additional Family Information (IMM 5406)

Who needs to fill out this application form?

This form must be completed by:
•You, as the principal applicant,
•Your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not), and
•Your dependent children aged 18 or over (whether accompanying you to Canada or not).

SECTION A

Write the personal details for:
•yourself,
•your spouse or common-law partner, (if applicable)
•your mother, and
•your father.

SECTION B

Write the personal details for your children. It is very important that you list all of your children (even if they are already permanent residents or citizens of Canada). This includes:
•married children,
•adopted children,
•children of your spouse(step-children) or common-law partner,
•any of your children who have been adopted by others,
•any of your children who are in the custody of an ex-spouse, former common-law partner or other guardian.

You must answer all questions. If any sections do not apply to you, answer “N/A”.

SECTION C

Write personal details about your:
•brother(s),
•sister(s),
•half-brother(s) and half-sister(s),
•step-brother(s) and step-sister(s).

SECTION D

After carefully reading the statements contained in this section, sign and date the declaration.

It is correct to include your spouse/common-law partner on the Additional Family Information. "If applicable" here means, if you are married or have a common-law partner, then write their name on line 2. If you are NOT married/common-law, then this is 'not applicable', so you would write 'N/A'(not applicable).

good news SenioritaBella, thank you for your detailed response. we included my info (sponsor) as the spouse of the primary applicant on imm5406. I asked my friend who made application before, and he said we have to include spouse (even if i am the sponsor) and am canadian citizen.

At the risk of beating a dead horse over this question...

IMM5406 is a form for ADDITIONAL family information. Since my CL partner is my sponsor, she is NOT an ADDITIONAL member of my family because CIC already knows about her, per the sponsorship application in and of itself.

Since I do not have any children, listing her on this form would be redundant and would provide no new information for CIC's benefit.

Or at least that was the logic that I used in filing out the form. ;D

Too late, because I didn't. I did attach a note stating that this is something that CIC should try to clarify as I know of other applicants as well that were just as confused. I stated that my sponsor is a Canadian citizen, already living in Canada and doesn't appear, at least to me, to be an ADDITIONAL family member.

We'll see how that goes over!
