Hi there,
I have some questions about NOC regarding my job.

I have just graduated from 4 years university in Visual arts and got a job since last summer.
The job is pretty good and was wondering if I can apply PR with this job.
I tried to find NOC code for my job position but it was really difficult to find.

If I ask my employer, does he/she have to provide the NOC code of my job position?

if anyone can help for finding my NOC, itd be great.
To be honest, it might fall into C level work, but im hoping a slight chance if its in the B.

What im doing at my work is,
decorating and finishing stainer with hand, "all hand", on artistic plaster-based panels(small size) which my employer=artist has designed.
Since we have a lot of types, I had to learn one by one, taking minimum 3 months training.
Speed goes up until 1 year, there is an expectation that management put on me regarding production speed uptil 1 year. Even though I have finished the training period, there are always new style of design which I have to learn again all the time, to properly stain and finish.

My wage is about 15/hr but it will go up (seems going up) to 17/hr for the first year, and 2nd year might be 19~20/hr as I heard from other co-workers.

Although it is not necessary, most of my co-workers seem to have an art related education or background, mostly college or university level, which helps the job done well. which is same to me too.

Do you think this job will fall on skilled level B?

If not, i should better to find one on B soon as my PGWP is only 2 years left.

Thanks again!

Your employer may or may not know the NOC code for your job. In my case they didn't but no harm in asking. Wages are not normally considered by IRCC as long as they comply with federal and provincial regulations e.g. minimum wage. You can search NOC codes here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/find-national-occupation-code.html#find . The nearest to your description I can find in Cat B is 5223 Graphic Arts Technicians but you would need to check that you are performing the duties described and that your employer is happy to confirm the relevant duties in writing when needed in support of your PR application. The better codes normally have some sort of management and/or skill involved.

No, but it is a worthwhile conversation to have. First of all, you will need your employer's support via a letter of reference that lists your job duties - if the two of you can agree on an NOC and your employer understands the importance of choosing the correct NOC to the success of your application, you will be on much firmer ground.

Although it is not necessary, most of my co-workers seem to have an art related education or background, mostly college or university level, which helps the job done well. which is same to me too.

Hard to say with limited info. Have a look at NOC 5244 and 5241 as well as 5223 - I like 5244 but it's one of those weird umbrella NOCs with various occupations and few defined job duties - Keep in mind that the Lead Statement is very important as well - but some VOs will have trouble with this NOC.

I'm guessing your boss would fall under 5136, but it would depend on the scope and scale of the work - are they one of a kind pieces or mass production? The "in-between" scenario is the hard one -

Hi @jes_ON, thank you so much your reply long time ago.
I have been so busy for work and now I have time to think about CEC EE.

I asked my boss the other day, he certainly wants to support me on this.
But as it seems it is first time for him to make the Lead Statement, it would be me who proposes my job description and he will look at it and revise it if any needed.

I was scribbling for some time for the job description, and this version is the best so far to my position.

-create artistic finishing effect on sculpted ornamental tiles, that are designed by the lead artist, using manual and artistic skills
-perform hand application of paints, stains, oils and varathanes and other materials
-inspect and retouch any work in flaw one by one by manual sanding, painting, or staining.
-develop new staining skills or staining process for new designs in communication with the lead artist
*from time to time other tasks my be assigned around the studio, including work in other departments as needed.

Do you think it sounds good to fit in NOC 5244 (Artisans and Craftsperson)?

p.s. I still have 4 months to go to be 1 year employed, and my job duty might expand including training newbies, etc..

I appreciate your comment in advance.

Based on that job description, I think 5136 is a better fit...

Hi @jes_ON , Can you please let me know if an express entry profile can be created after uploading the signed request for withdrawal of the submitted PR application or should we wait for the withdrawal confirmation by the IRCC? Its been a month since submission and medicals haven't passed yet

Thank you as always, @jes_ON.

I see my position along with other people in the company. is a bit of technical and crafty, considering the number of works I make.
(I am kinda trapped in the 'in-between' situation you mentioned earlier.)
My company sells handmade wall plaques(tiles) from scratch. we are renown for the fact that every process is handmade.
However, my part is only 'finishing staining/painting' part, compared to other dpt. people who are doing image transferring, molding, etc.......
So, I wanted to think it as a craftsperson's job. Plus, when I see the hiring post of my company, it says 'a team of craftspeople'

If I use this job description with the NOC 5244, and CIC somehow thinks it is more like NOC 5136
would it be a problem?? (..but they are both above C.....?)

If I replace the word 'artistic' with 'decorative', would it be sound more like NOC 5244?

I really appreciate your comments. Thank you

You have to understand that selection of the NOC is based on the best fit with the lead statement and the list of job duties and responsibilities. It is NOT based on job title, self-image, or what your co-workers do. A bureaucrat will compare your job letter to this if you chose 5244 -

http://noc.esdc.gc.ca/English/noc/QuickSearch.aspx?ver=16&val65=5244

... and there is nothing there that will match your job duties. Which means at best, your application will be referred for "reivew" (delay delay delay delay), and still stands a high probability of being refused.

NOC 5136 at least includes painters and sculptors. If you are uncertain about 5136, you can always include a letter of explanation about your dilemma, the two NOCs you considered, and why you chose one over the other. Not sure how well that will work the other way around, given the lack of correspondence.

Ultimately, you know what you do. If your letter does not fit well with the NOC that you think best represents your experience, then there is a problem with the job description in the letter.

Thank you so much for your comment, @jes_ON.
I now understand the importance of job duties and responsibilities on the lead statement.
I thought the job title was bigger than those, which is not.

I should talk about this with my boss and possibly show this thread to him to get the best lead statement in my situation, whichever NOC my position falls under.

Again, I appreciate your comments. !
