SK is right. They have every right to verify whatever they want. It mainly depends on the Visa officer and submitted documents.

Yes and No. Any sign for concern or doubt will result in them verifying.

i learn from few friends that they have made calls at Banks and at employer's place.

It is not important that they will make verification for all of the provided documents But as Sk Says that asume it will happen....It is very Important...But as in my experience and few friends recieved Professional Check from current employer and previous employer.

At least my cousin in Canada told me they called him from the visa office to confirm our relationship and also inquire about my person. It all depend on the visa officer anyway.
