A lot of people are working in professions with no connection to their education. I think what matters is your mastery of the trade. One occupation that almost everyone is doing no matter what their educational background is IT Consulting. What is your job and eduction?

Thanks Bendjoe.... finished engineering and now in a store management/customer service..Wonder if that(profession) could be of high demand in canada? Do they(immigrant officers) look more on work experience or education?

USA
Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
If you are a manager and have at least 1 year of experience on that profession, you may be qualified for Federal Skilled program. Look for your job title and duties here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp#list

If not, you may need to find a job and go through that route. If you are on H1B for a year, you may be eligible for Alberta. There are a lot of threads related to Alberta route.

College major is not that important, but your experience/duties are very important. Degree level helps as you get more points for having master's than just bachelor's, if you go through Federal Program. Anyway, it sounds like you need to spend your one weekend going through this website and learning all the basics of Canadian Immigration: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Hi I had a question. I have graduated from USA in Electrical Engineering and worked before my graduation in Electrical Field. But after graduation I found software engineering/java programming more appealing to me as they offer more money. So, now i am a Software Engineer/Java Developer. Now in USA H1b is problemetic. Last year my employer applied for that and I was unable to get H1b as I was nominated in the lottery(190,000 applied for about 60,000, so lottery was incurred). But still I am continuing my work under OPT 29 months work authorization. My employer will apply for H1b this year also. But I dont know what will happen. But I already have more than 1 year experience. Good English communication and 0 french capability. What are my options (please see my summerized qualifications). I need a quick PR in Canada. Please guide me.

Qualification:

Degree: Electrical engineering
Experience in Electrical Enginnering: 3 months
Experience in Software Engineering/Java Developer: 1.5 years
Work autherization: OPT Stem Extension(29 months of work authorization)
H1b 2008: Was not selected in lottery system
H1b 2009: to be apllied again

Thanks.

I think you will get H1B this year, this year there won't be that many petitions from outside USA. So all OPT should get through. AINP h1B program is far away from you.
