Hey guys unfortunately I worked over twenty hours for a month in March during my studies (three weeks 24, last one 56). I was strapped for cash and took the risk but now I regret it and stopped after March.

I had a few questions over this:
What are the odds I am deported? This is my main fear, as I do not plan on applying for PGWP. Surely they wouldn't deport someone over a month, right?

Also how would they find out? How does the IRCC calculate working hours? Would they only know after taxes are filed in February? Some people on this forum said that the IRCC has no systematic way of knowing and that they only catch you if someone reports you or if they catch you in the act like in the famous case of the truck driver a few years back. Is this true?

Anyway, I am extremely stressed over this and regret it immensely. Any advice/info appreciated.

- You won't be deported. However your PGWP could be refused.
- Working hours can be determined based on records attached to your SIN (assuming you were working under a SIN). No, it's not determined from tax filings.
- I'm not familiar with the truck driver case and can't comment on that.

Hi! Thank you for the reply.

I'm so glad you said I won't be deported, but is there a reason in particular you think that, because in the website it says that you MAY be removed from the country if you work over 20 hours, so that's why I was worried.

Also, this is the truck driver case: https://globalnews.ca/news/5269138/international-student-arrested-facing-deportation-work-permit/. It's interesting because it's the only case I was able to find of an international student being deported for over-working, although he was doing it for years not a month. I'm interested to hear your take on it, since you seem knowledgable on the subject.

Thanks again for the help.

Yes, that's an extreme case so I can see why he was deported.

Worst case in your situation is that your PGWP could be refused.

Okay, so since I only did it for a month you think that there is no chance for deportation, right? Even if hypothetically someone reported me? Or what if they did a random check and found out before ny studies were over?

Sorry for so many questions but I am very paranoid about this! Thank you for your answers it is very helpful.

I can't tell you there is no chance. I would say the chances of that are extremely extremely low. I personally don't think IRCC would take this action.

Thing is either you have to lie about your hours worked in your future applications pgwp pr, citizenship which means you may lose pr citizenship at any moment since you lied on your application. On the other hand, u can be honest and tell them what you did and hope they forgive you. It's a tough spot u put urself in

But if your PGWP is refused, and you have no money to take another course then student would have to leave Canada, correct?
