Declaring absences prior to becoming a permanent resident in the Physical Calculator?

Hi,

Do I have to declare declare absences prior to becoming a permanent resident? I was told to record absences after becoming PR.

Here are two contrasting piece of information causing confusion:

On page 2 it says "This chart is only for absences AFTER you became a permanent resident"

Q10: Do I need to declare absences prior to becoming a permanent resident?

A10: Yes, all absences from Canada during your eligibility period, the five (5) years preceding the date of your application, must be declared. Therefore your absences during your time as a temporary resident or protected person within the eligibility period must be declared as well.


Can an expert comment on this?

To add : I came to Canada as PR and didnt had any other status prior to becoming PR.

Hi ,

If you never left Canada since you moved here as PR, on the question "did you leave Canada during your eligibility period " you should answer No, technically you never left. Even if during the eligibility period you were in your home country. You can try two simulations with the online calculator :
1. Answer yes to that question and input your dates .
2. Answer No to that question .
In both scenarios the number of days spent outside Canada should be zero.

I did leave Canada after becoming PR so my question is should I declear all absences after becoming PR or prior period too as this fall with in 5 years?

All absences after pr should be declared, in your case you never had any other temporary status before pr and you were in your home country before landing, so technically you never left Canada before pr. No is the answer. Do not declare days you spent in your home country before landing even if you do this will still show zero day spent outside Canada before landing.
