sorry to ask this, but im just getting confused, the start of the 8 months application is when you received the AOR right? not the time that you file the application. so if my aor is January 6 that is the start of 8 months? sorry im getting stupid while waiting i think.

Yes, I believe the timer starts from the AOR.

They really have slowed down in pace. For me, seems like they have just completed Language, but Physical Presence and Prohibitions are still in progress. It’s also been a month since I gave in my fingerprints, but my Background Check is also still in progress.

my background check is in progress, do they specifically ask for fingerprints for everyone or its some cases only? It's been over 4 months AOR, last update I received was on march 18, not sure how long is the wait or holdup.

No, not for everyone. Even my wife didn’t have to give fingerprints.

I don't know that anyone knows. And if one asked IRCC, I'd bet the answer will be 'whichever interpretation is the longest' (ie please don't ask us too many questions).

are you asking if there’s a deadline to submit a passport application? Why would you think there is a deadline? I don’t think that’s a thing. Some citizens by birth go most of their life without a passport and then choose to get one whenever they end up needing it, if at all.

oh okay so there is no deadline we can apply passport anytime right but if I want my passport with my new legal name as I have added surname as of my marriage do I need to amend my name on citizenship certificate as well ? or there is no need and I can apply passport with proof of legal name change letter and other supporting docs like driving license , health card etc.

No need to do the citizenship certificate, go straight to doing passport (w/ legal change of name document).

After that you'll likely never need citizenship certificate again, or rarely - and in my view no need to do the citizenship certificate at all (can always use it plus the change of name). But if you want to get it updated, you can - just do it after the passport.
