Hi, I just have a question for those who already got their Citizenship or submitted their application.

Is it a requirement to submit a valid passport in applying for citizenship for minors?

story: my children's passport will expire this oct 2025 and I'm thinking to not renew it because we have no plans of travel. we can apply for citizenship feb 2026, my question is, can I submit the citizenship application of my 2 children with expired passport? will it cause a problem with our application?

Thank you in advance. :)

I am so behind... I am still studying for the exam ...
Disclaimer: My advice holds no water at all. I am not an immigration attorney. I am no one. Follow at your own risk.

I started studying right after I got my AOR, then I couldn't right before I took my exam because I lost interest. I am on that'd be described remotely as a history, or civics, or geography buff.
I'd say read the book once a week before the exam. Take free tests only. I took the one on yourlibrary and torontolibrary.
There will be questions that throw you off. Keep calm. Sometimes the answer lies in the phrasing of the options.
The exam is not for geniuses to only clear. It's for the gen pop to clear.
Remember you have to score 15 or higher, and you have three attempts in a window of 30 days. All will be fine.

PS: You could order ATIP notes repeatedly to nudge your officer to look into your application every time you order notes.

I received fingerprint email on feb 19 but tracker is not updated yet. Not even request for fingerprint. I only received email. Fingerprint given on Feb 20.

I am checking everyday with an hour interval and it is affecting my productivity at work as I am starting overthinking about my application will get delayed. The BG is still in progress for my wife and me and no update. We have a travel plan in December this year to go back home and I got constant thinking of application, anxiety that application will get delayed.

It is so strange that some people are getting within 3 months and we are in waiting game. The person applied in Jan are getting test with dec applicant and BG is also getting cleared. My file is straight forward with only 2 month travel to back home in last 5 year. So frustrating
Hey, I understand. I missed the cut off by a week because my ECA didn't come on time. I got my copr two days before covid lock down. I have 5 coprs because covid kept delaying my travel. I was able to travel about 2 years after I got my first copr. I could go on and on about my life.

Don't speculate. It doesn't help. It could be something else in your file that is out of your control. Keep calm. All will be fine.

I'd say I have one of the most common names around the world. Getting an email address was a bummer. Coming back, its not your name or anything else. This process is beyond our control.

People say number of days in Canada matters. It does not. I have seen my friend's profiles that applied on the 1061th day, being processed fast.

Maybe a coworker or someone you have close ties to has had a criminal history that you don't even know about. It could be anything. As long as you haven't done anything wrong, all will be fine sooner or later.

December is far away. I am sure you'll be able to get your citizenship, passport, and visa to go back home.

Meditate. Pick up a hobby. Spend time with family and/or friends. Checking your application has no impact on how it is processed.

Being distracted at work could have negative effects on your job. For your livelihood, don't stress about the application.

This was a very nice thing to share and say. Perspective is very important in these types of situations. We should all live our lives as though a citizenship application isn't pending for us. Honestly, this approach has worked for me.

They don't really bother with minors. They will update everything for him when the adults have been finalized.

I am actually proud of the GTA IRCC offices, they have picked up their game. And I'm glad to see that they honored your place in line since they messed up by initially misplacing your application.

No it is not a requirement. In your case, you would submit copies of the expired passports and include a letter informing IRCC that you have not renewed passports. Make sure you write a formal letter with date and signature. There is a space on the online application to upload additional supporting documents. This is where you'd upload the explanation letter.

Yes, I was worried that my application got lost, will never be recovered and have to redo the application once it expires. But the agent was so helpful. They posted notes on the application asking it to be picked up for processing and I received my AOR within a week after that. Rest of the steps got done quickly.

My express entry application for PR had a similar situation and it took forever for it to get processed. IRCC was short staffed at that time (peak of covid) and GCMS notes took longer than usual with not much info in them either except that it is being processed.

But I am glad it is quicker this time.

Thank you for your response. Should the letter of explanation be notarized? Have you known other people who got the approval of their citizenship even if they have an expired passport?

IRCC has a Facebook account that you could ask questions on. Do you want to ask them as well?
