Hi everyone!

Hope you are well

I finally received back my passport from VFS today. I got PPR on the 31st of August, sent my passport on the 3rd of September and they were done with it on the 27th of September. I am planning to travel on the 4th of October, I will take a copy of marriage certificate and copy of spouse ID with me, as well as a plan to quarantine and hotel details.

Hope you all receive good news soonest!

Best of Luck
Congrats, make sure the copy of her ID is the passport.

Call me dumb. Do you need you to provide quarantine plan and hotel details? I mean, you cannot meet (and live with) your spouse for the first 14 days upon arrival in Canada?

You would need to provide a quarantine plan. You wouldn't need to stay in a hotel. The relevant order under the Quarantine Act requires a person entering Canada without symptoms of COVID-19 to "quarantine" themselves for 14 days and monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 during such period. "Quarantine" just means "the separation of persons in such a manner as to prevent the possible spread of disease." This does NOT mean that you can't stay with your family and you are not required to avoid all contact with them. Here's the federal guide for travelers without symptoms. It says clearly that it is permitted to "live with family/friends who have not travelled with you provided you have a separate bedroom and bathroom, if possible" and to "use shared spaces such as a kitchen, provided you limit interactions with others . . . and keep surfaces clean."

By the way, there's no obligation in this for anyone coming into contact with an asymptomatic traveler to themselves self-isolate.

You are wrong, a person self isolating CANNOT use the same bathroom with other people in a household, has to be totally separate, no shared kitchens, laundry or anything else. Food supplied to the person to be left outside the door. No contact at all. Do your research better, don't be giving false info during these times. Meaning if you are sharing ANYTHING WITH ANYONE WITHIN THE HOUSEHOLD YOU ALL HAVE TO ISOLATE FOR 2 WEEKS. Nobody leaves the house for work or shopping, only time you leave is to get immediate, critical medical help.

I think what he wrote is a direct excerpt from the official guidelines. See this- https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/phac-aspc/documents/services/publications/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/covid-19-travellers-without-symptoms-returning-canada/covid-19-travellers-without-symptoms-returning-canada-eng.pdf

That guideline is confusing for me. So to be clear

- You must wear mask when you are picking up your spouse from airport? Or practice social distancing?
- You must practice social distancing from your family member or every body else at your household?
- "If possible" use separate bathroom and bedroom? What does it even mean? You just meet your spouse after almost a year (or more), you know what I mean.

I have never travelled overseas since Covid started, so I am not sure what people did to follow this protocol.

I think the safest and easiest thing to follow (if possible), would be both you and your spouse quarantine at home for 14 days. So you go to pick them up at the airport and then just stay at home for 14 days.

I strongly disagree with your interpretation, though I realize that it is the received wisdom on this forum. As mentioned above, what I wote is directly from the Government of Canada's own materials. Please also read the order under the Quarantine Act (I also linked to this) and tell me where any of this applies to anyone other than "a person entering Canada" (you can't, because it doesn't).

While I will acknowledge the possibility that there may be certain provincial laws that mandate some of the steps you outline that I'm not aware of, the Quarantine Act mandatory quarantine order does not require such outlandish steps.

Next time at least read what someone posts before telling them to do their research better or accuse them of giving false info.

Y'all are taking this thing too serious. I recently travelled to jamaica to visit my husband and I had to quarantine when I got back. I live with my family and I have my own bedroom. I simply advised that I would be in my room majority of the time and practice social distancing as much as physically possible within my household. All he asked was if I had people to shop for me etc. I said yes. And he let me go through.

They just want to know that you are aware of seriousness and you have a 'Plan'

Hope this eases your minds somewhat.

Maybe the rules have changed over the months as they have been doing with so many things related to Covid, when we did our quarantine in April I believe they were not promoting the idea of people in quarantine using shared spaces.

No new changes, except a line stating my previous GCMS request under incoming correspondence.
Currently paper file is in CPC-Mississauga
