You have got that correct that the PA’s account is the one used for tracking not the sponsor unless they are representatives. And for linking specifically, as JoshC suggested and accurately mentioned, You would follow the instructions that he has added to his comment.
It actually doesnt matter WHO links the account. It can be the PA or the SA. The only time one of the two CANNOT link is if they have a PAID rep

Just to clear the confusion up for everyone:

  • Initial paper application (IMM 0008) - Question 3 asks "How many family members, including you, are in this application", the answer to this is 1 if it is just yourself, and then +1 for each dependent listed on the form.
  • Linking to GCKEY, it asks "Number of family members, including the primary applicant, that are part of this application", this includes your sponsor, so the base number is 2, then +1 for any dependents on your application.
I recently posted the below to our November thread and we've had some positive results with linking:
Thank you for clearing this confusion. This is the most comprehensive answer.

So if that’s the case the rep has to link the account ? And I guess give the login information to sponsor or the applicant ?

I dont know if they give acces. My guess is not as if you have a rep you shouldnt be receiving any info or providing any to IRCC.

Our application was received Dec 01 via courier. All new forms submitted and inked signatures. We have a baby due in MAY. Hope husband can be here from Central America for the new baby. Praying.

No AOR yet.

Hey! I noticed you got your AOR already! I was just curious as to whether you received it from Sydney or if it was from the Mexico VO?

THANK YOU SO MUCH. This worked. I am now linked in the PA's account. You are so helpful.
It is crazy how complex it actually is - I can only imagine why people have such a hard time with this - especially if they are unaware of these forums or if they are not computer savvy.

Congratulations! I still need to wait a little later to try again today. But according to IRCC web, it seems that they can still return your application after sending you AOR (https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/redir.do?redir=app_perm_fam&lang=en&app=ecas), is this correct?

Only if it is incomplete or missing documents. If you have submitted all documents, up-to-date police checks if applicable, forms signed with ink signatures you should be ok and the process will continue.

my spouses police clearance is only valid for 3 months, and surely expired by now. are they chances of them returning the file?

They may not return the entire application in that case, rather ... ask for new ones to be uploaded in your file once your GCKey account is linked to the application.
