What You Can Do If You Have Been Friendzoned
(your application has gone over the stipulated six-month processing time)
Step 1: Speak to IRCC to find out the date and nature of the last activity on your case as well as your visa office. Instructions on how to call IRCC are in my signature. If your case is being processed in Canada, request the agent to “send a reminder” to follow up with your case officer. The agent may choose not to send a note if there was a "recent" activity on your case, but it’s totally worth a shot.
Step 2: If your VO is outside of Canada and the agent can’t send such a reminder, look up the email address for your VO using this link. If no email address is listed, use this special Web Form to contact your VO - there is an option to select a specific VO like London or Accra.
Step 3: Consider ordering GCMS notes. Best to order them via a friend or relative in Canada, or from a third-party service provider.
Step 4: If you are not satisfied with the response you have had from the steps above, you can look into contacting a sympathetic MP to request the status of your application. Note that while MPs are empowered to look into immigration cases, I understand they cannot and do not strong arm IRCC into processing your application faster or intervene in the final outcome. One such sympathetic MP is Ralph Goodale who can be reached by email at ralph.goodale@parl.gc.ca or goodale@sasktel.net. If you are already in Canada, it is apparently possible to request a meeting with your MP to discuss the progress of your application; you can look up your local MP here.
Good luck!
