My father who was a principal applicant for us unfortunately passed away last month. We were almost on the verge of getting our visa as our passports were already with the embassy. We got to change the post of principal applicant to my mother's name. We have already sent the new IMM0008 and IM334b form to the embassy and Mississauga and informed them about the passing away of my father.
The thing is that she is the step mom of my brother who is a main sponsor for us but they both have a very good relation since she is a maternal aunt and my brother desperately wants to call us to Canada.

After informing the embassy and submitting them the forms, do you people have any idea how much time it takes to process such case ??

IMHO you should be prepared for a refusal, as their are no longer any "blood" ties between the sponsor and his step mother. Unless H.& C grounds are considered.

Read: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob369.asp

f the spouse or partner is not eligible

If it is determined that the individual identified on the application as the accompanying spouse or common-law partner is not eligible (a step-parent or step-grandparent of the sponsor), officers may consider humanitarian and compassionate factors in assessing the familial relationship between the sponsor and the step-parent, namely, was the step-parent part of the sponsor’s formative years or did the step-parent marry the PA in the past year?

But what if the step parent is a maternal aunt of the sponsor ? And by the help of DNA it was proved that the sponsor had close blood relationship with the step mother as she was the younger sister of sponsor's real mother. Moreover she has been the step mother for more than 22 years and they have really good relationship between them.

What happens in humanitarian and compassionate grounds ? I think Embassy should ask the sponsor that is he willing to call his step mother and brothers to Canada or not. Will they ask the sponsor or not ??

The step mother is NOT the parent of the sponsor, that is why it is call parent sponsorship. No, the VO will decide if the step mother help to raise the sponsor. If the marriage of father and the step mother was after the sponsor was an adult, there isn't much hope.
