How are you supposed to remember the exact date your partner met friends and family? I have a rough estimate. Do I just give a date not really being sure if its right or not?

that's what I did - I don't remember the exact date I met my partner's parents, for example, but I know it was in late July -early August of 2004, and we had had a hurricane come through a few days before - so I looked up the dates of 2004 hurricanes here in Florida, and guessed a date based on that. I remember the date that they left town, because the next day, we found our dog, and I definitely remember that date.

For those kinds of questions I just figured - it's not like there's a correct answer written down somewhere that an IO will look up and compare to your answer. It's not a test with a right answer and a wrong answer, you know (even if it feels like it sometimes)?? As long as you get as close to the actual dates as possible, and you actually try to figure it out, I'm sure it'll be fine. Worst case scenario, if you don't remember exactly, maybe make sure you remember the logic of choosing one date over another, in case you have to defend it in an interview.

you can say that you met your partner's family in the fall(summer..) of 2008, for example, I don't think it has to be accurate date.

Thanjs Minna I know the general month. I guess if we took pictures I can figure it out based on the dates :)

If you don't know the exact date, it is better to just put the month or the season and the year, rather than a 'guessed' date. They don't really expect you to know the exact date you met someone 10 years ago, unless the date was memorable for some reason or you have some proof. I don't remember even the season I met my husband's roommate, so I just put the year for that meeting.
The only problem with putting an exact date that is just a guess is that the visa officer might actually then expect you to remember it at interview, or ask why you remembered it in the first place.

well on my application I put a different date to that which our friends put in their support letters. The dates weren't off by a lot though.

I said that I met X in June and X said that he met me in May. I guess to cover it all up, you can easily say that it was at the beginning of the summer and give a brief description of how you met that person, if you can remember.

I was freaking about the incorrect dates too but in all honesty, IOs have to be insane to reject an application on such silly grounds. Think of it in that manner.

We guessed the date..... but in some cases we did just give a month and year.

It has to be an exact date. Just guess.

Thanks people!
