Hi Guys,

I am submitting my citizenship application and under sections 6A, 6B, where it asks about the date or permanent residency and also the date came to live in canada ....

i have put a different date that i came to canada to live than the date i became landed..simply because i had to return to leave my job and come and live here....so the date that i actually came to live here is about 6 months after i became permanent resident....

is this a bad thing? will this trigger RQ? i just tried to be honest....on my residence calculator, i have also declared that absence and mentioned he reason for it that i went back home to leave my job and come and live in canada....

please help, i am submitting my application today...

thanks..

You will get more responses if you include the exact wording of questions 6A and 6B, so people can respond to you more quickly and aren't required to search for the a copy of the form. If you lay the groundwork, it will make it easier for people to advise you.

My memory of these questions is that 6B should only be different than 6A if the applicant came to live in Canada before becoming a PR. But I'm not certain, so I will wait until you post the actual text of Questions 6A and 6B.

sure so here are the questions from application:

Q 6A : Date you became permanent resident

Q 6B : When did you first come to live in Canada (if different from A)?

now what does '' When did you first come to live in Canada (if different from A)?''' mean?

is it just the time before becoming permanent resident? or could it be any time after becoming permanent resident too?

so in my case have put a different date that i came to canada to live than the date i became landed..simply because i had to return to leave my job and come and live here....so the date that i actually came to live here is about 6 months after i became permanent resident....

is this a bad thing? will this trigger RQ? i just tried to be honest....on my residence calculator, i have also declared that absence and mentioned he reason for it that i went back home to leave my job and come and live in canada.... ??? ??? ??? ???

You know what, you're right. I think you filled it out fine.
I feel like this question may have been subtly rewritten to clarify some ambiguity? Not sure.

As for whether it will trigger an RQ, I don't personally think so, but neither I, nor anyone outside the CIC can really tell you, because the CIC won't acknowledge what does or does not trigger an RQ.

If you came to Canada on a non-immigrant visa e.g. student or work permit before becoming PR, then you will write that date in the date Came to Canada to live. And you PR date will be date you landed.

It seems in your case, you came to Canada on the a date you landed. If that is the case then both of your PR and date came to canada to live date will be same. The six months gap you mentioned after becoming PR is actually your absence from Canada after becoming PR which you will anyhow declare in application form with a reason for absence.

The date you came to live in Canada CAN NOT be after the date you become Permanent resident and I think even the residence calculator will give you error message if you put it that way. So, as someone else just put it, the date you came to live in Canada is for those who come as student or temporary workers then they get their Permanent residence status and in this case the calculator will use those days as 1/2 day. Even if you leave Canada for 2 years after becoming PR, that's only a vacation or an absence for any other reason.

i see, so the date i actually came to canada to live is the date i became landed immigrant....even though i left canada about a month after i became landed and came back again after 5 months...so i declare that as an absence?

is that not a problem that after 1 month of landing i left and was not here for 5 months?

the fact is, in my residence calculator i have declared that time as an absence but the reason for i have written ''''left Canada to to go back home to leave my job and come back to live in canada?''' is that not confusing for cic?

i had never been in canada before i became permanent resident, and the first time i came here was the time i became permanenet resident...

Actually, I would go with what Goldine and others have said and declare your landing date as the date you came to live in Canada (if you haven't sent it already). If you have sent it off, it's probably not that big a deal.

Good luck.
