unfortunally today i got a letter from the canadian embassy asking all canadian to leave Syria NOW

Due to the ongoing and unpredictable security situation in Syria, the Embassy of Canada in Damascus reiterates the following advice: "Canadians in Syria should LEAVE NOW by commercial means while these are still available. Canadians who remain in the country despite this warning should be aware that the Government of Canada's ability to provide consular ASSISTANCE MAY BE EXTREMELY LIMITED due to the security situation and restrictions imposed by the Syrian Government"

I am so sorry to hear this news iltham!!! I cannot imagine being in your position!! My heart goes out to all of you with spouses in Syria. I pray the situation come under control! thinking of you iltham!

Oh NOOOOOOOOOO dont say it but as i know the situation in Damascus is fine i have relatives there i always asking them ..they told me every thing is fine in Damascus .. did they ask u redo medical ??? omg im really worried now :S ..ya rab help us

This warning has been on Damascus visa office's website for months now, 5 months I remember at least, it's not something new. So I guess they just decided to send it to Canadians in Syria in a written format too, in case they haven't seen it already.

OMG this is ridiculous they want us canadians to leave but our spouses can stay its crazy im not there but if i was i wouldnt leave without my love if i had the chance to be there ....good luck friend stay safe and make a wise decision...ya rab u get ppr very soon like tomorrow i will pray for u....

Re: TRV while sponsorship app is processed


unfortuantely i cannot go to syria to visit my wife because of my job ad because of the current situation in syria.
I am really depressed i dont know what to do.
CIC by phone is completely useless, i even went to th MP of my area, one of his assistant said he called immigration and they told him it takes 13 months and half the background check is complete. i dont know if he made this up or how it relates to my remaining processing time.
The CIC by phone gave me a fax number in ottawa, I faxed them and they didnt answer me, neither did the ambassy in damascus by fax as well. they dont have even the courtesy to reply for trv info request. this is unacceptable.
anyone has managed to get any fax/phone/person i could use to get help.

I am a canadian citizen living in mississauga. I got married in syria and applied for spouse sponsorship.
I have read few pages in this forum but no one ever mentionned a TRV for the spouse.
I want my wife to come visit me in Canada while her sponsorship app is being processed.
The only way seems to get her a temporary resident visa ( tourist visa ).
anyone have had any experience with such a visa while the sponsorship app is in process ? any help is appreciated.

met my wife while i was on vacation in syria around feb 2010. she became my fiancee and i came back to Canada.
In August 2010 I have made an app for a TRV for her, and they advised her to withdraw the app until she brings proof of marriage to proove the merit of the TRV.
In October 2010 went back to syria for 3weeks, married my wife and went with her to the Ambassy with a TRV app and the proof of marriage. it was declined saying i did not apply for sponsorship.
In April 2011 i sent my sponsorship app.
May 18 received confirmation of sponsor approval. No news since then.
On the website it says Damascus received my app on june 4 2011. nothing else.
Am i supposed to get any other correspondance, i havent heard a word from them.
It was 8 months processing time when i applied, then 9 then 10 and now 13 months !! this is just insane, how they expect new couples to be seperated for so long ?!

anyway i sent faxes to both ottawa and Ambassy in damascus to inquire bout a TRV. no answer !!
they dont even have th e cuortesy to give me information if i can apply for TRV, i dont want my wife to go apply and get denied again, not to mention the situation in syria im scared for her safety and its this wait is very harsh on both of us.

So anyone knows the law, or any gov agency that can help or give me answers ? if i can do nothing bout the processing time, at least i wana be able to see my wife by her coming here on a TRV.

They tend to not give you any information until they need to ask for something. Trust me...my husband and I called, faxed, went into the consulate here in Lebanon, contacted my MP, pretty much anything you can thing of, we did. They never gave us any information until 8 months after it arrived in Damascus when they had asked for an updated police check and we got the RQ. Then again no replies until a few days ago they called my husband for an interview. So don't stress out, they just don't reply for whatever reason. When they need something they will contact you
