Its same way like "Do you have France/Germany Health insurance when you travel to France/Germany?". No. We take travel insurance as its the only thing needed to cover for emergency medical. You are visitor to US, not a resident to US and not going to seek regular physician/dentist appointment for your regular checkup or do some surgery in a visiting country. If your employer offers then you can very well take it.

No company offers cheap car insurance rates hence search online and go with the one quoting less at that time as all are daytime robbers - double the cost of US.

Wait, are you talking about Canadian auto insurance?
I'm a bit confused.

I was originally thinking of getting both US and Canadian health and auto insurance.
I'm not sure how US health insurance will work since I won't have a US residential address.

MI state law says that I'll have to get a MI auto insurance if I commute more than 30 days out of a year, so I'll probably need one, right?

I was wondering if every cross-border commuter has to pay for all 4 insurances.

Canadian side purchase:
Travel insurance for US trips which will be used for emergency medical.
Get dental and vision insurance if required. These are not covered in ON. Some US companies offer this as part of employment in US but not all companies.
Auto insurance from Canadian companies for the car.

US side purchase:
None.

Hi, I am moving to Windsor at the end of this month. Can anyone guide me which is a cheap and the best home internet plan/ company to go for. Can we use our own router/modem?

Start.ca for 50$ per month without any contract. Problem is that our modems are not compatible hence had to shell out some 80$ for buying the modem from them but its worth as the other guys just rob us by increasing the monthly cost after 6 months.

Wait what?
I didn't know this!

I kept my modem and router for this...damn
I think they purposely use this chance of low rate to make some 2 months money upfront like this. i tried 2 modems and not compatible. Even new one is not - because the firmware is of old version in which the modem connects to their server  (dirty tricks). But they knew that my cable company Cogeco charges 50-80$ first 6 months and then increase to 80-120$ hence they play this game. But except the modem cost, 50$ is good price. I too did not know about start.ca for 2 years and i changed only last year with them.

Thanks Hariraj.
Just checked their website and they are out of stock with modems so they are not providing any new connections.

Do you know of any other service provider?

I never bought it from them via the site. I called and ordered. So first call and find out. Are they allowing to buy just modem or you are trying to order the internet package?
I dont know others. Call them first before you decide to move on.

Hello everyone, Since I am moving to windsor on Aug 29th and will be taking all my stuff in a Uhaul, can anyone guide me on how can I get some help to unload the truck. I checked a few portals and they are charging upwards of $50 per hour. Are there any better priced options.

Hello Experts,

One question related to quarantine situation, I am moving to Canada next week and understand that there would two weeks of quarantine rule. However, I would need an urgent internet connection after I enter my house. Can I have an internet provider visit and install the next day after I arrive or do I need to wait for 14 days?

You can call them and get an internet connection. Whether you prefer to rent modem/router or buy it from them, its up to you but they will send it to your house and you would have to just plug it in. There is an "activation date" that they provide, basically the date your internet gets activated.

Assuming you are moving permanently, you would need to import the car the day you are moving permanently. After that you can still drive with US number plate for time being till you get your Ontario plate, but be prepared to answer why you are driving a US plate while living in Canada daily at crossing.

For visiting you can take it without importing.
For moving to Canada then you need to import temporarily or permanently. i dont know how temporary import works.

Do you think it'll be possible to start commuting across the border if I stay at an Airbnb while looking for an apartment to move into?
I don't know if the border agents will exempt me from the 14 day quarantine if I don't have a place of my own. And I'll probably have a Michigan plate on my car as well.

Backstory if it's important:
I'm actually in Windsor right now looking for apartments. I can apply for apartments, but I'll have to fly back to the US to file the H-1b change of status application. Since USCIS will be going on furlough in a few weeks, I don't know when the case will be approved, even with premium processing, so I don't know if it'll be wise to sign anything right now.

But I don't want to do the 14 day quarantine again when my H-1b COS gets approved. I'll have to do the apartment search all over again...
Some things just can't be done online, like handing in the money order for last month's rent.
I don;t know if CBSA will exempt me from the 14-day quarantine if I just show up with some clothes and a car with a Michigan license plate.

This pandemic is really messing with my plans.
