Thank you HarirajMohan for the above links. Do you have any information on eligibility for 401k, HSA and 529 as a canadian resident but working for US Employer.
401k: You will get the exemption at Canadian side when you include this amount in form RC268.
HSA: You wont be eligible for hsa if you dont subscribe to US insurance. I dont know how to deal with the money already deducted during the first year but possibly you can try checking if this money is already deducted before the line Adjusted gross income at 1040. If its already deducted then you dont need to worry as this is your actual income to be reported to CRA. if its getting deducted after AGI then i dont know how to deal with it.
529: No idea.

My visa is going to expire on Dec 30, 2020.
Can I use Auto revalidation (AVR) for daily commute after the visa expires?

why dont you go get a new stamp as soon as consulates are open?
My employer has to file for an extension which is going to happen soon and then I’ve to get the visa interview appointment in any consulate in Canada to get the stamp. Considering that some consulates have not opened yet due to covid19 and also the new executive order on travel restrictions, I’m worried if I can get a new stamp before my current visa expires on Dec 30, 2020.

Its 6 months away. Things could get even worse or better until then. why are you so worried? 6 months is a long time
since you have an existing visa stamp,i guess you can go ahead and get a new stamp
You’re right..6 months is a long time..I just want to be prepared for the worst case scenario and start working on having backup plans. The question is whether the consulates will issue H1B stamp after yesterday’s executive order which may stop some non-immigrants visa holders from entering USA for the next 6 months. There are numerous sources on this latest news. This is one of them - https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-01885-6

Folks - Need some advice again :) So.. My current H1b visa extension is due(expires Aug 5) and my employer has asked me to move back to US inorder to file an extension at this time. I am planning to arrange temporary accomodation until filing and approval. I have valid stamped H1b now. If i want to commute to detroit tomorrow, are there any restrictions based on the new EO order? What should i be prepared with ?

Thanks again !

Were you in US or Canada at the time of filing extension? I presume you must have been in Canada.. ideally one needs to be physically be present in US on the day when the extension is filed. USCIS NOID letter would have said that you were not the country when your extension of status was filed, so they won't be able to approve your extension of stay aka i94.

If your application has no other issues related to actual employment itself (client letter etc.), you will get definitely get approval with i797b i.e the approval without i94 and has consular notification. Getting i94 with petition is useless for your scenario anyways because you won't be able to use AVR as it has been more than 30 days since you left US and you would need a stamp anyways to enter/commute to US. I don't see any reasons for you to be panicked or resume commute right away. Just book for stamping as soon as embassy reopens.
DEEPCUR - Can you elaborate on this ? I have been out of US since MAR-2020 ( More than 30 days) . I have my Visa stamped until Aug 5. I plan to re enter tomorrow with the current stamp. Are you saying it is not allowed? Or can i enter Detroit with my current stamp?
