Yesterday I called CRA review team. I told him the whole scenario how CRA says I owe them the big amount. I also mentioned we submitted IRS transcript, W2 and 1040. He mentioned that he can see the submitted documents from November 2021 and added that nobody got a chance from review team to check them yet. He asked me to be patient and they will review the documents again and then hopefully revert the amount. They don't need anything else.Hey, yes, my accountant and I spoke with a couple of CRA agents and once I involved my Member of Parliament's office to help me with this issue, I got a call directly from the CRA guy who processed my return. Over the last year, I provided my 1040, W-2, IRS tax transcript for 2017-2020 years and details about the U.S.-Canada Tax Treaty convention. All of this resulted in CRA bringing down my amount owed from 75K to 22K for the year 2019. Then they reassessed my 2020 return and said I now owe them 35K. So I have been dealing with collection notices and calls asking me to pay over 57K in taxes.
Do you and others in a similar situation pay taxes in the U.S. and then pay additional amount to the CRA due to Canada's higher tax rates? In my situation I feel like I'm asked to pay over 55% in taxes when I add what I pay in the U.S. and what CRA says I should pay here in Canada. Seems unfair and unreasonable.
That's great. All the best. I'll call them too and see if they have an update on my case. Thank youYesterday I called CRA review team. I suggest you call CRA review team directly.
My suggestion would be.....don't relent before this is resolved. CRA like any other government department is 'Hard Ass Bureaucracy'.......where one cheek of ass does not talk to another. Call them again in around 1-2 months time. Don't assume more so if things are in collections.Yesterday I called CRA review team. I told him the whole scenario how CRA says I owe them the big amount. Yes correct. Even though they mentioned, they will review in 1 or 2 weeks, I am already prepared to call them again in 2 weeks. This needs to be resolved ASAP.My suggestion would be.....don't relent before this is resolved. Yes you do need a negative test.Planning soft landing in Canada. Any pointers? Do we have to declare the good at the time of soft entry?
Does the Canada still needs negative antigen test?
Most likely you will have to do a stamping using latest I797A and they will stamp it on a new passport. I140 remains with you even after you change the citizenship.Good morning all
I have a question and was hoping if anyone of you know the answer.
I am eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship. I also have a US H1B visa on my Indian passport along with an approved I-140. If I apply now and let's say I get the citizenship in a year or so, I will have to renounce my Indian citizenship and return the passport which has the H1B visa. Can I get a new H1B visa stamp on the Canadian passport using the old I797 and approved I-140 or Do I have to go through the H1B lottery again and get a new visa?
Thank you so much for the reply @CanucksRajivMost likely you will have to do a stamping using latest I797A and they will stamp it on a new passport. I140 remains with you even after you change the citizenship.
Visa and I94 are valid(mostly they wont issue a new one) even if its on old passport. Just carry both and band it together and show the visa page in old passport and officer will look at both passports to make sure you have a valid one while traveling. Let the officer decide if they need I94 or not. So if they need then they will issue a new one and pay at that time.Hello,
I'll be travelling to the U.S. from Canada via road border. I have a valid US B1/B2. I've travelled via the land border several times. As I renewed my Indian Passport, I am unable to apply for the 6$ I94 fee online as it says no i94 record exists for my passport. How do I go about this issue? Should I just proceed to the road border, with my old and new passport along with my visa in the old passport? Will a new i94 be created with my new passport and entry/exit be recorded there? While returning to Canada my PR card is usually scanned, with the passport change how will the i94 departure be recorded?
Thank you
I have the same situation. Conveniently CRA considered my US income, but not my taxes paid in the US even though i had submitted my Transcript. I resubmitted it again in November 2021 and still no one has reviewed yet. My accountant said this is very common and it will be corrected. Fingers crossed.Yesterday I called CRA review team.
