Hello folks!

I have a question for the daily commuters. If you get Nexus pass, are you obligated to use the nexus lane only when crossing borders? The reason I ask is that over the last 2 weekends, I've observed the nexus lane much busier than the regular lanes and i wondered why they wouldn't just join the short lanes.
Does anyone have insight? If I have Nexus, can I use regular lane or I have to go through Nexus lane?

W2 not required for transfer, I was generally saying that it was not just about pay slips, and getting really paid.

I think transfer without activating original H1b is a grey area. I have seen people mentioning so in forums, but haven't found anything legal. I was just supplementing his assumptions.
Thank you APPNOV2014NY and DEEPCUR. Nice discussion. I will update this forum once i go through all this.
Cheers.

Hi,
Thanks for creating thread and very helpful for new start. Am giving my softlanding May 2nd week in Windsor and planning to move end of the year permanently.

Couple of questions:
- Currently working in Indianapolis, My company might allow me to work from home and visit office two/three days in a month. Can i do this with no problem for Extension ? so when i come to indianapolis once/twice in a month will stay 2/3 days so my residency will not count in Canada right?.
- Can you guys suggest me couple of apartments/communities to see while am giving softlanding with family ? Is there anything else should i consider?
- I have paid off my car loan, If i take my car to Canada when i move to permanently, after registering Canada plate, can i travel to usa when i come to office? Is this okay ?

Thanks @prudhvi for starting this thread and all the others for sharing your experiences.
I am currently working in downtown Detroit and am planning to make the move to Windsor soon with my family. All this is so helpful.

Those with kids, does anyone know how are the schools in Windsor area? Are there specific areas in the suburbs that one should look for while searching for accommodation?

BTW, anyone working in downtown Detroit willing to meet and share experiences? We should have like a meetup sometime to know each other :)

Do you have a nexus card? Heard that you need to complete 3 years in PR for applying?
Not yet; I plan on applying soon. I think you need to have lived in either US or Canada for 3 years and have a PR. I'll update you once I find out.

I'm from Indianapolis too. Currently visiting Windsor and hunting for good neighborhoods but moving permanently in second week of May for good.
1) I researched this topic a lot but decided to just WFH and visit U.S. for meetings once in a while on B1/2 visa. B1 or B2 is for short business trips, so that is what I'm going with once I move permanently to Windsor in a few weeks. I would suggest you look into this because crossing a border once in a while on H1B might not be a good idea as it looks like you will have payroll run in CAD, is that correct?
2) I'm narrowing down within South Windsor neighborhood. I hear they have best schools and also the neighborhood looks better. This is just based on my few weeks here in Windsor. Not ideal for daily commuters to Detroit but doable.
3) This is perfectly fine. But once you import the car, you can't take it to U.S. without registering in Canada. Registering in Canada means getting a drivers license first, then insurance, etc which might take time.

I applied and got conditionally approved which means I need to attend an interview with either CBP or CBSA to get the card. You should have lived either in the U.S. or Canada for 3 years before you can be eligible to apply. What type of visa doesn't matter, just you should be legally present.
