Hi, just heard that my dad passed away in India leaving my mom in her 60s now alone there in the house.

I am currently on PR in Canada and just applied for Canadian citizenship.

Not even sure if mom would like it here in Canada but she's expressed interest in coming. So thinking of calling her over. Any insights on:

- The best route to go through and how (I believe applying for her PR via family visa would take many years and isn't guaranteed due to the draw system & applying for visit visa - normal and supervisa may be other options)
- I believe she wouldn't be covered under the Canadian healthcare and I would need to buy her a private insurance. And the insurance I have via work covers dependents but traditionally parents are excluded.
- How to deal with the Indian bank assets/house - keep them intact as is?

To minimize my costs - I currently rent out a room in sharing and take the transit. But I would need to get my own place, get a car and mom insurance to call her over, so the costs would increase.

Just trying to figure things out and determine the best route.

Any insights would be appreciated.

Your best bet will be on the supervisa for parents and grandparents. If it is issued, technically, your mom can stay in Canada for up to 2 years.

With this option you will have to purchase private health care insurance for the super visa to be approved. Private health care insurance only covers emergencies and your employment-based plan will not cover her (since she's not classified as a dependent and also doesn't qualify for provincial health care coverage). So you need to be prepared to pay for all non-emergency health care out of your own pocket.

I assume you meet the minimum income requirements for the super visa?

To be approved for the super visa, she will need to demonstrate that she has ties to her home country and is only coming here as a visitor (not to live permanently).

Thank you for the insights. I do meet the supervisa income requirement.

Some questions:

-In what ways can she proof ties to home country?

-I currently don't have my own place (am sharing someone's rented apartment). Would I need my own place before the application or can I get it later before she comes over (I think I may need to specify the exact address she will be staying in the invitation letter) ?

-For proving mother-son relationship, I can't find my birth certificate but my Indian passport does have her listed as my mom. Would this be work?

- Also I have just applied for Canadian citizenship. Though my Indian passport is valid for another 8 or so years, once the Canadian citizenship is granted the Indian passport will expire (as India doesn't allow dual citizenship).

Could I still use the then expired Indian passport for the relationship proof? Would the Canadian passport will also have her listed as my mother?

- Any additional insights/suggestions?

Thanks you
