current tourist visa applying Skilled Worker (PR) thru Buffalo

Hi all,

I, Australian, have stayed in Canada for 6 months. I also have extended my tourist visa for another 6 months (expires end of Aug). People advised me that I can apply PR thru Buffalo. Do I apply now or have to wait till Aug.?

You can't apply through Buffalo. You were not admitted to Canada for a period of at least 1 year. Two six-month periods are not the same thing.

But I called CIC call center and they say it is ok and deemed as 1 year as long as I don't leave Canada.

Thanks Thaiguy. I appreciate your advise. Is there anywhere I can get a confirmed answer? Please don't get offended as I am not doubting your knowledge but just want to double check.

No offense taken. You should definitely get another opinion if CIC told you you're ok to do it that way.
