Just to avoid starting another thread..

This sounds like a silly question, but it's something I just want to clarify. I don't necessarily have to get married in Alberta do I? It would make more sense if we were to marry here in NC because my family would be more interested in attending my marriage than his would, and would be upset if they weren't able to. I think I read somewhere that all that matters is that the marriage is legal in the country that it took place in, correct? I read on Alberta's website that they do not register marriages that take place outside of Alberta, but do they recognize them as valid, legal marriages? I just want to make sure our marriage would be fine according to Alberta's government since that's where I intend on living with him. Not sure how much sense this makes but if you need any clarification to help me out, feel free to ask. Thanks again!

Getting married in NC is fine. Yes, Canada recognizes marriages in other countries. Most of us on this board were married in another country! LOL

Good luck and have a wonderful wedding with all of your family present.

Ah that's a relief to know, it's what my assumption was but I didn't want to go doing anything too crazy without being 100% sure :D And thank you :)
