I am wondering if anyone can answer/help with this question. We just got a correspondence asking for criminal record.

Does anyone have experience submitting a criminal history that has a fine?

There was an unfortunate incident years back and my wife was innocent but unlucky and got caught in a large group that got sued at the same time for "dishonoring a person".. it's some sort of defamation suit. Anyway she didn't do anything wrong but it was cheaper/easier to pay the fine than to fight the legal case. Now we are worried that might affect the immigration process.

It did happen a long time ago (> 10 yrs time), and the fine has been paid and there was no jail time at all. In this case, do we have to accompany the police record check with a written explanation of the fine, what happened and why she paid instead of fighting it? Is it going to be a serious issue with CIC?

Oh I really don't like worrying about every detail but we want to make sure we have all the right information to present to the CIC and do the best we can! Please help! Thank you!

I am not sure if you have to include a letter or not.

but either way a simple fine that was paid and there was no jail time and it happened many years ago should not be a serious issue.
They would just want to see what happened with the case, but it should not hinder your application
:)

they are more worried about serious crimes, assault, driving under the influence, war crimes, stuff that is a saftey risk to other people or that you were put into jail for.

dont worry too much about it.

I agree...you shouldn't worry about it.
