CPR expiration date

Hi everyone!

I've heard that when you receive your CPR, there is a date on it and it says that you have to enter the country (or I guess to cross the border if you're inside Canada) by that date stated. I would like to ask your experience on how many days they actually give you to enter Canada.

I've read somewhere that this expiration date is 1 year from the date when you last had the medical exam, but will they actually give you less than a month to enter the country? I've taken my medical exam for PR at the end of October 2013, and am thinking about going back to my country for a holiday in September this year, so I'm curious that if they actually send me CPR say in September 2014 when I'm in my country, and request me to enter Canada by the end of October, which gives me only a month to arrange a flight ticket, pack all up, etc...

It is very difficult to make a plan ahead when I have no idea when they will send me the CPR and how long I will have to enter the country after I receive the CPR.. Could anyone who has already received your CPR before please share your experience and give me an idea on how long they give us to cross the border from the point of receiving CPR....??

Thanks a lot guys in advance..! :) :) :)

Yes it's 1 year from medical exam. Some people have received COPR with only days or weeks to land, and some have received it already expired (in which case they need to request new COPR from visa office with medicals extended).

Rob is right. It's pretty different for everyone, there's no real way of knowing. If you're at a slow VO you might have to do a remed before you're approved. If you're with a fast VO you might still have 6 months. The one thing I've learned through this process so far... You can't really plan for anything, you should only just be prepared for every possibility. You know that you'll be moving within a certain time period so I would start preparing for the soonest possible time so that you aren't caught off guard but I also wouldn't make any definite plans until you hear something for sure. It can be expensive to book plane tickets last minute, true. It can be even more expensive to have to change plane tickets because they were booked too early. You can start doing other things to prepare though like selling some furniture & household stuff and begin to decide what you're going to take with you and what you won't. Etc etc

Thank you agarand8 for your post!

Yeah you're exactly right.. I wasn't thinking about how expensive it could be to book a flight at the last minute... It is really not a nice feeling not being able to know what will happen or plan anything hey..

Anyways, thank you so much Rob and agarand8! If anyone has any experience having a super short time period on CPR till landing, pls let me know!
