make sure he sets up (if he doesn't have it already) a utility bill or bank statement that is MAILED to him at your current address in ontario.

Yup, this was already done when we established common-law. It was part of the proof of relationship in our application package.

Hmm. My husband isn't going to have any bills for awhile, I imagine. Maybe when we set up his bank account (which we were gonna do right away) we'll ask them to go paper for a few months to get the statements mailed.]

can you add his name to a utility bill? that was the easiest thing for us to do. you don't need permanent status in canada to do that.

Received my COPR today! (It was sent on the 11MAR2016). So I'm all set to land when I return from a trip to the US next week. Here's my timeline:

My timeline for those interested (FAM, US Outland Process, though in Canada on a study permit at present):
July 28th, 2015 - Application mailed via express courier
July 30, 2015 - Application Recieved
August 29, 2015 - Correspondence on Receipt of Application
August 28, 2015 - Sponsor Processing Began
September 28, 2015 - Applicant Processing Began
**Medical results were sent upfront**
February 17, 2016 - Correspondence sent: Request for payment of landing fee and proof of ongoing cohabitation
February 23, 2016 - Paid the $490 and sent the receipt and proof of ongoing cohabitation (docs were too large to upload) via express courier
March 17, 2016 - Received COPR (No PPR or anything else, they just mailed the COPR after I sent them the requested correspondence).

Thanks everyone for your assistance and info!

If I am residing in Ontario and CIC mails my COPR to me at that residence would I still need something else to show Service Ontario as proof of residence in Canada?

Hey TracyCa64

Yes you need something else. I went today to service Ontario. They refused my CoPR, they told me to go cross the borders first and then to come back. They also refused my printed bank statements!!! They only accept mailed ones. Stupid enough they told me I can just take a simple letter from my landlord and it might work!! They are not even sure what is working! A simple letter can be fake but they might accept it?
They told me that I could do the Photo ID card as a proof of residence it will take 4 weeks, but if I'm planing to take my driver's licence I will have to give it up.
I also showed them letters from Enbridge that they gave me as a proof of residence for my PR but they told me they don't accept letters, only mailed bills.

Oh well I will figure something out :) and go back again soon, hopefully next week :)

For some reason this link isn't working. It keeps coming up with a request for a password.
I did google service ontario and found the list.
Thank you!!

Hey stephcy!
Thanks for the info. I was checking out Service Ontario's site. I did see the list of items they need from me. I think I will have our bank mail a statement. I think it's pretty ridiculous that not even "landing" or having COPR is enough. I just can't wait until this is over, I am kind of feeling done. Lol

This might sound like a stupid question but I will ask:

When cic mails the COPR, is it obvious the letter is from cic? Does it say clearly on the envelope that the sender is cpp ottawa/cic?

My husband is with me in Canada now and his friend is checking his mail and will let us know when there is mail from cic. DM was 29 Feb but still no mail/no news. So just want to make sure that she will be able to see the mail is from cic. Or is it just plain white envelope?

Ours came in a brown envelope, bout double the size of a letter envelope. Like this (not my image, found on Google): http://jamesjpotoski.com/wp-content/uploads/CIC-Envelope.jpg

yeah, some reason the entire webpage didn't hyper link, so you actually need to cut and paste the entire link to have it work correctly. glad you were able to find it on their website. good luck!
PS... just so you know, getting things done in ontario is a LOT quicker than in the states. i'm always amazed by the efficiency of these offices. getting my SIN number took the longest only because there were others waiting and it's service canada which is the federal service, not provincial. once you actually get serviced, it's in an out (assuming there are no issues). once i got my proof of residency for ohip... easy peasy. when i got my license, it took less than 30 min. i was floored, considering a year before it took me 3 hours (and 3 separate windows/lines) at the DMV in the states and I thought THAT was good! updating my car registration... 12 minutes flat. no joke. (yes i timed it, because i still can't believe how quick they are!)

Thank you and still no sign of that letter in Washington!

Got DM today. 3 months 16 days to DM.

I don't even know what to do next. Work on the B4?

Well I'm the sponsor, but I don't know what he should do next.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I received my COPR in the mail today.
It is a very bittersweet day for me as yesterday my sweet Mother passed away.
Just trying to process it all.

Best Wishes to everyone!!

Congratulations! Seems to have been a lot of movement with DMs from Ottawa the past week or so!
