Hello,

I've been waiting for more than 14 months. Is there anything I can do except waiting? I received my GCMS, and it seems like CIC is suspecting that my sponsor doesn't live in Canada, which is not true. Should I hire a lawyer?

Have they asked you for proof yet? I had to provide proof I lived in Canada (which I did). They asked via email to my husband. It wasn't a big hassle and definitely not worth spending money on legal help. I provided bank statements (with lots of "Canadian" charges), a copy of my lease, pay stubs, phone bills that showed I was making local calls from within Canada, a copy of my dog's licence for the current year, etc... It totalled 17 pages of scanned documents. That was more than enough for them and my husband got his COPR the month after the documents were due.

An attorney can assist you in preparing a response to CIC, but you can also do that yourself. Bottom line, if the officer has doubts you need to assuage those doubts - provide evidence that the sponsor is living in Canada. A lease or mortgage, evidence of daily living activities, such as bank statements showing debit charges for coffee at Tim Horton's (for example), evidence that the sponsor has used heath care services, etc. If the sponsor belongs to a gym, a log of gym attendance If the sponsor checks out library books, a printout showing recent checkouts. If the sponsor is working, paystubs along with a letter from the employer stating that the sponsor is employed at a specific location inside Canada would be good as well. And so forth - anything that demonstrates the sponsor is in the country.

When CIC has doubts, the best strategy is to provide them with evidence to assuage those doubts. Remember, an officer's decision can be overturned if it isn't a reasonable outcome based upon the evidence - so give them so much evidence that they'd look like asses to refuse on those grounds.

Thank you.

They asked my sponsors tax return and lease a few months ago but haven't heard back from them. I thought the problem was low income but after reading the notes the actual problem was they were suspecting that my sponsor was with me in New York because I live with her grandparents in ny. Cic misread my application and think that I "live with my sponsors family" thus the officer has some doubts that my sponsor is in ny.
Should I send information that my sponsors parents are in canada as we'll??

They did and we thought it was about my sponsors low income. I will send some bank statements and pay stubs. Thank you.

I will be submitting our sponsorship application in about 1.5months. I got married to my US PR husband about 2 months ago. I have yet to update my passport to add him as my spouse. Does this matter on the application? He is currently in the process of updating his passport and he has added me as his spouse.

what do you mean "update passport to add him as my spouse"? I've never heard that and don't understand what your marital status has to do with your passport. Where on the passport does it specify one's marital status? as long as your passport is valid for travel, that is what you use for your application. If you mean you haven't changed your name yet in your passport, then it's recommened to change it BEFORE sending in the applicaiton to avoid delaying ability to legally change your name.

oh..just had my hubby's Indian passport renewed and we had to provide information for the addition of a spouse with his renewal. You are right - my Canadian passport does include my marital status on it. I do not intend on changing my name, so I guess my passport is good to go:)

Hey guys, just a quick question..

Anyone here not get any notice about SA and had their application move along? We never received any email or notification for SA but when I called and my husband called they said that our application was accepted for the sponsor (husband) and my file had been received along with medical results received. The person we spoke to said that sometimes you won't get notification of SA it just moves along, and that basically that's what it is looking like for our application. Just wanted to see if anyone had any other experiences with something like this?

Thanks.

The most insulting thing that can be done to someone. Not send an SA? Because sending one email is just so hard.

We're coming up to our year mark and I've still not heard anything yet...I emailed about his medical which would have expired a few months ago. I'll let the anniversary pass and see if they contact us, but then I'm canceling it. Then I'll never know what happened to my file lol.
