Got a letter from CIC today saying that they approved my application to extend my visitor visa a second time, signed on March 15th(it expires in March of 2014 so they gave me a whole year!). But, I landed as a PR in February. I guess that means I'm not getting my $75 dollars back haha

How long did it take them to process your extension application ?

The processing times can be found here - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp

They're pretty dead on.

Well holy moly, it's 3am in deepest darkest Alberta (can't sleep) and I got an email from Ecas tracker (didn't think that was working) about 20 mins ago, to say Ecas has been updated stating 'medical results have been recieved' :o.

Is this thing nearing an end 8)

It won't be a big hassle, but it may be a minor annoyance. They should be OK with the COPR pending receipt of the PR card, but it may require someone senior to approve a deviation from normal protocol.

You don't need a PR card to work. You need a SIN and you can get that immediately after landing. Take your passport and COPR to a Service Canada office and they will assign your number. They print out a sheet, stamp it and hand it to you. It takes ~5 minutes once you get to see a real agent.
Thanks ComputerGeek! Very helpful information. I was doing some research yesterday on my own about school and it appears that Ontario will not turn away any child from an education, even if they are not citizens/pr's but I am sure it would make it MUCH easier with a card in hand. I am going to be calling the schools in May to find out what I need to do and get the process started BEFORE school lets out for the summer. If it's anything like here in the states nothing ever gets done over the summer break as no one is working but a skeleton crew. As for the SIN number, I thought I had to have the PR card so that is extremely good information to know. Thanks alot. :)

I'm more so worried about whether or not they received the passport copy as it said on the letter that they MUST receive it within 60 days so that's really what I'm worried about. So I'm just looking for some correspondence from them before the 60 days is up saying that they have indeed received the copy.

The email has been sent. Ill keep everyone updated if I hear anything.

Thanks again for everyone's help and advice. This forum really is helpful in a lot of ways
I actually got an email reply from Ottawa saying
"Good day,

The copy has been received.

Warm regards "

That's a nice polite response. We received a somewhat cryptic "delivery confirmation" by email this morning from the USPS for the package we sent to CIC earlier this month with the documents they requested, and this "confirmation" said "we were unable to locate any delivery information in our records in regards to your package," even though online is still says "delivered." I'm fairly confident it was delivered, but this is just the excuse we needed to contact CIC to inquire about our application. Now waiting for a response...

Thanks for your response. We are still at early stages. I got approved month and half ago. I sent an application to extend her stay for another 6 mnths (don't know how this will go).
Personally I would switch around the contacts so that your number is first as it seems that will be the number where you all will be the majority of the time. I don't think it will be that big of a deal either way if have both email accounts. Of course they could possibly call you if there is any information needed. I am not sure what the best way to go about it is. Can it be done online?

I just got an extension at the end of December sent it in September. Be prepared to wait about three months. Good thing was, I put in for a year extension and they granted it but not from the time I asked they granted the year from the time it was processed. I'm good until December.

:'( It's sure been a quiet week in Ottawa.

Received COPR! e-cas showed "decision made" this Tuesday morning, and they sent it out yesterday to my husband address in Canada (I tracked Canada post online). I finally can stop worrying about it...

Tell me about it. I'm going to be sitting on pins and needles until something happens.

Thanks! I am sure yours is coming soon! My husband and I have already been separated for nearly a year, I cannot wait to finish my job in US and move back with him in June.
