Is there even anyone working in the ottawa office?!

I think their energies have been redirected. Looks like they're going to use the fact that they have a 15 month timeline, which was updated a few weeks ago, to their advantage. What worries me is that more and more applications are being sent to Ottawa and the queue is ever increasing, while no movement is happening. I think the days of 6-8 month approvals are over. :'(
unfortunately, when you look at the spreadsheet and compare the timeline for applications from this time last year (ie: june/july 2013 applicants), the wait time was well over 200 days. the timeline didn't start dipping below 200 days until dec 2013 applicants, and 6 months was not "normal" until feb - mar 2014 applications. if this is the "trend" for ottawa, then this isn't anything new and it doesn't look like there will be much movement on the remainder of june/july applicants until march-ish. only time will tell if this is the "cycle" for ottawa or if there is no correlation between last year and this year.

It just really worries me that there's been pretty much no movement in the past two months...even if theve slowed down a lot, they should still have approved some people from xmas to now right?

Can you remind me what the timeline for ottawa was on the website before it changed to 15 months?i thought it was 16 months before, but I have a feeling I'm wrong?

in the past year, it went from 15 to 16 back to 15.

even though WE think they *should* be approving applications, the reality is we don't know the inner workings of the visa office and we don't know what the priorities are. again, if you look at the spreadsheet from ottawa, you will see this isn't "new" at all. it seems to be how ottawa works. unfortunately different times of year see different speeds in processing. that's just how it is.

This is disappointing to hear as I submitted my app this month. Will it still be faster than inland? I am starting to regret my decision choosing outland with all this talk of no movement from Ottawa. Being able to work in 4 months was so tempting but I figured PR in ~6 would be much better.

We haven't seen movement, but we must keep in mind there are lots of people who applied and are not on these forums or are not sharing their application timelines online. I hope that they are approving people that just aren't involved with spreadsheets or online communities. Fingers crossed for a speedy application process for everyone:)

yes, it will still be faster than inland. outland is always the recommended choice (even CIC says so in the inland guide)! just because ottawa isn't moving right now, it doesn't mean it won't start soon. again, i would recommend anyone to actually look at the ottawa spreadsheet and look at the application times for 2013. of course no one can say for sure what will happen, though my guess is this "normal" and things will pick up again soon when the officers' focus is put back on outland applications.

also, there is still no substantial proof that the new pilot program OWP will actually be issued in 4 months from the day the application was sent. the information does not specifiy if the "4 months" starts when the application is received or if it starts when cic sends an AOR. those are 2 completely different timelines, and we won't know what it actually is until December applicants start receiving owp. don't be fooled into thinking inland is the "easier" choice just because CIC dangled a carrot to keep applicants quiet while they wait 2+ to become pr.

there really should be no regret applying outland. this is how the process works. processing times go up and down.

That's true. I am curious to see how the OWP in 4 months plays out. Fingers crossed things pick up!

Hey all,

So was having one of those depressed days where you can't stop thinking about your application!so I decided for the heck of it to try phone my MP,expecting them to just tell me to phone back after the 15 month processing time has passed.

Spoke to a very nice lady on the phone and basically just told her that I was worried about my Medicals expiring,as I had emailed ottawa about this a few times asking what to do but hadn't got any replies.
she took my details and then phoned me back a few hours later, telling me she had contacted The Ottawa visa office and spoke to someone there and asked about my application.they told her that they were currently working on my criminality checks and "relationship checks"(not sure what that means....)

Does anyone know how long criminality checks usually take?or what they mean by relationship checks?

Does this sound to anyone like they may be working on our applications,or that they just said that to her as a sort of a "yeah we're working on it...." Kinda thing?

Well, hopefully we all see some movement soon!

Was really grateful of that lady in the MP's office today for helping out.was a really nice feeling to know that she accually spoke to someone on the phone about my application and it's not lost or something!

I have heard that criminality checks can take longer if you have a common name because someone else with your name may have committed an offence. I'm not sure what they check.

I'm not sure what relationship checks are but if it's a spousal application, maybe they're trying to see if your relationship really is genuine.

Good news, someone on the London forum who was processed in Ottawa has had a Decision Made status pop up on ECAS. I believe she was a June 30th application, there is hope for us all yet!

Relationship check means they are checking if your relationship is genuine, or you are together just to get a PR. They check all of the information you provided on the forms and supporting documents you sent (photos, tickets, chats etc). I am pretty sure they don't read all the chats, but they do make sure the evidence you provided is enough, and if it isn't, or they have any concerns, they will request an interview.

If your MP said it's in process, means it is, I don't think they would lie to them.

Yeah I've heard that before about criminality checks...I have one of those last names that you have to say about seven times before people get it,so hopefully it won't take that long! ;D

Hmmmm I figured that might be what "relationship checks" we're.its weird though,we ordered our notes a few months back, and in them it said they were satisfied that the relationship was genuine?..we have cohabited together in Canada,Ireland and Australia, and been on a few vacations to other countries in between,so I can't really see them thinking it's not genuine.oh well,we'll wait and see I guess!
