My job has been good enough to keep me on since my "last day" at the end of June. After next week I'm done for good and if I don't have COPR in hand yet I'm going to "visit" until the process is over.
Good idea. That was my plan for the past year. Unfortunately I can't afford to "visit" anymore. You were smart to wait and keep working. We thought the process would be much quicker (two friends of ours immigrated within 4 months of applying from Manila) so we decided I would visit 6 months at a time last summer, because being apart was no fun. Unfortunately things didn't go as smoothly as we hoped. Landed back in the States yesterday morning and accepted a job today. We'll see how this all unfolds now.

I'm assuming meds only last a year. If that's the case mine were expired back in May. That may add a little more excitement to an already drawn out process. Ha That didn't even cross my mind. ::)
Oh, yuck. From what I understand they can extend them by 3 months if that's the only thing left to be done to process for your application, but it sounds like that train has left the station (though who knows). Hopefully you won't have to do them again.

Probably a stupid question, but when we cross the border with the moving van towing the car...do we go through the truck lane, or cars etc?

On the Canadian side you go through the lanes with the cars and from there they'll send you to secondary inspection, but on the US side you need to go through the export process - you can Google your crossing and give the US border service a call to find out where you need to go.

We'll be crossing the Peace Bridge...when I go from here to the US, there's no van, just me :p

Actually, the rule was they could extend them for a year within 3 months of their original expiration. But that Operational Bulletin has expired, so I'm not sure what the rules are right now (probably the same of course).

Hi fellow Ottawa applicators! I've been getting antsy waiting for my application to go through and stumbled upon this website today. I'd like to get put on the spreadsheet if thats possisble (I tried to send a message to IvanP about it, but I dont think I've made enough posts to qualify to do that).

In any case, I'm the Canadian and I've applied to have my American wife come over. So I think all this information is right:

Applied with spouse out of Canada. I got the e-mail that my app was received on December 17 2012. I was approved as a sponsor on Jan 16 2013. On the online application checker thingy it just says "application recieved" and "medical results have been received". We've been just been playing the waiting game since January. I understand a PPR would be the next step if things go well?

Excellent :) It's nice to know other people in the same boat. My wife, on the other hand, saw some people on the forum applied after us and already have PPR's. Hooray for randomness in these things!

Perhaps they're just waiting for her birthday in September to send good news.

Anyone shed light on this situation? My hubby just got PR last Sunday but has been residing and working in Canada on a work permit since May 2010. The permit expired June 23, 2013 but he was able to keep working on implied status until a decision was made on the work permit extension. Now that PR has come through before the work permit, Service Ontario is saying that he will have to wait another 3 months for OHIP eligibility even though he meets the residency requirements and is just under a status change.

Anyone have experience with this? Is this true? I don't always believe Service Ontario call agents....

Update: Hubby went into Service Ontario, handed them his paperwork and they issued him a renewal - effective immediately! Yay! Apparently this is not correct procedure, so hopefully it sticks!
