Yupp. If you add up the cost of the medicals and shipping and multiple sets of finger prints we spent a little more than $3,000 on my little piece of plastic that apparently no one will ever even need to see.

How was your trip? :D
Weather = crap

But other than that it was great, fastest week of my life I think. Most weeks take like a whole week to pass by, not this one! LOL

Try the BlackBerry Playbook for less than $ 150. I have both an IPad and a Playbook and find that I can do more with the PlayBook especially web browsing. It works same as pc browser.

Totally understand that feeling. One of my friends here just doesn't understand how much money we dumped into our application and how long I have been out of work with only my wife working, we were barely scraping by. Its like now that the application process is over with, she thinks we have all of this money to spend and it's so frustrating because of course we'd love to go out and do all of those awesome things with her but we just can't swing it. I'm lucky I even got to go back and see my family for a week.

End rant. lol
Things will get better though - you can work and save. But it is definitely an expensive process, even for the simplest of applications, and creates tremendous stress while it's ongoing. I think it's one reason many people abandon the forums after the process is done - better to forget the painful experience and move on.

LOL. When it was all done, we spent almost $20k on the process. I spoke to one person who told me he spent $50k by the time it was all done...

For me, I'd spend it again, since it's what it took to be with my spouse.

Anyone who spent the wait in Canada while applying outland or even inland for that matter basically spent a ton of money. My story is ridiculous.

We got married in April 2010, but didn't have a plan on where we wanted to live and figured it would be Texas. After realizing the amount of time that would take we decided that Vancouver would be home. I came for a visit for 30 days in October(I was able to work from my computer) and ended up staying until the summer of 2011. During the spring of 2011 I was offered a job in Australia and they gave her one in the office of my new company. Awesome, we can wait this out together. Four years in Australia getting paid then off to Canada as a PR.

We hated it in Australia and we decided to come back to Canada last spring. After getting everything done I am landing on Friday. All in all I missed over a year and a half of work and she is young without much experience professionally. She has been amazing in the fact that she has supported us this entire time but we have been broke. Lots of evenings around home ( we have taken up outdoor activities as they are cheap). I can say that this process is much more expensive for most of us than we really know. If we lost $50,000 during this whole process I would be shocked it wasn't higher.

I have to agree. I'm out almost two years salary. Not that I made much, but still. My new boss loved me to death so I'm sure I was on my way to a promotion as well. Oh well!

When we start talking about opportunity costs, I'm sure the price can go quite high.

I personally lost most of my sanity (and any faith I had in CIC) during the process.... so there are definitely non-financial costs.

Agreed. My entire family, in-laws included, has no patience/faith in CIC anymore. Especially my MIL. She was VERY upset that my husband didn't automatically become a Canadian Citizen and that I didn't automatically become an American Citizen. She likes to rant about immigration in both countries haha.

I empathize with everyone on the lack of job and losing money. I was lucky enough I've been in a transition period and my job contract ended soon before I came here, so I didn't have to give all that up here, but yeah, it still hasn't been a cakewalk.
Things are going reasonably quickly for us, but I had an RCMP request today, and went and got that done. Slightly annoying, but I know they're looking at our application, at least! Can't be too much more I need to submit before I get my COPR, right? *KNOCKS ON WOOD FURIOUSLY*
