Hello Everyone,

I am B.Com in Accounting and Finance and M.Com in Accounting From Mumbai, India. I have 6 years of full time work experience in accounting.

Can anybody please guide me :

1. The CPA process
2. Will i be required to go through CPA-PREP?
3. Can my WES credential for my above mentioned qualifications be considered by CPA Ontario?
4. How and what procedures can i start for CPA before landing in Canada.
Your first step is contacting the CPA board in your province. I was in Canada but when I first thought about CPA my status was visitor, I couldn't start anything.

Hi there,

I am also CMA from Pakistan and currently studying CPA Alberta after obtaining certain exemptions. I have around 13 years experience in Pakistan and immigrated here in December 2015 but thought now to kick off CPA lately.

On the basis of ICMAP, you will be granted exemptions from Full 14 courses of Prep and in PEP you will be eligible to challenge Core 1, 2, Elective 1 and 2 instantly without attending courses and workshops and submitting ANY assignments at all. You have to attend courses for Capstone 1 and 2 and then CFE. Meanwhile CPA will evaluate your experience to fulfill the 30 months requirements and then you will have CPA designation.

Please keep in mind that any other designations obtained on the basis of ICMAP will be discredited all together and CPA will evaluate you on the basis of ICMAP only.

Job market for brown accountants is extremely challenging especially from countries like ours, it does not mean that no one from us do not get jobs, you know like every where in the world or specially the third world, references and contacts are VERY important to have a job other wise you would land on a survival job. You gotta have very less expectations other wise will be disappointed.

In spite of having Oil and Gas Accounting experience and financial sector accounting experience here in Canada im still doing survival jobs to earn my bread and butter here. Applied more that 200 resume but no response yet.

So Good Luck for you. You should give your luck a try.

Hi
If you get exemptions F1 to F9 of ACCA through ACCA mutual agreement with ICMAP then clear remaining exams of ACCA, will it be OK to get CPA Canada membership or you need to clear all ACCA papers through exams.

Kindly guide.

Did anyone else here apply for Ontario CPA and get asked to have two character references completed on your behalf by two other Canadian CPAs who have known you for more than a year? How do you find these references if you're not working in the industry with Canadian CPAs and have been in Canada for under a year?

Hi I’m interested in doing CPA Canada after I finish my ACCA exams and was wondering if this is possible? Is there a specific institute in Canada which I can apply to for doing the CPA course? If yes, then how long is the course approximately? Or do I have to get work experience first in order to get CPA?

If you mean to get CPA Canada once you are an ACCA members, then go through the below links.

Process for ACCA Members - CPA Canada

FAQs for CPA and ACCA members - CPA Canada

General notice to CPA and ACCA members - CPA Canada

If you mean to get CPA Canada once you complete only exams, i.e., an affiliated member, then you have to see the requirement for individual provincial CPA body. In Ontario, you start from accessing your transcript (https://www.cpaontario.ca/become-a-cpa/international-transcript-assessment), based on your education and ACCA exams history, they'll let you know what you are exempted of and not. That would be your starting point, which determines what, how and from where to prepare for.
