Hi Tiger,

Thanks Once again. Yes i looking for the course which you
have mentioned. The reason why i have choose, I have 4 yrs
of exp in same field. So it will be easy for me fetch a job
there.
Are you sure? I would like to select in Canada..
I will also check the Univ which you have mentioned. Any
feedback about the course from LAMBTON ..Please provide
your comments..
Hello,

I don't want to repeat what tiger007 said before. But I've same opinion as he does to pursue University degree.

I just got interested seeing your choice of college - Lambton College which is in Sarnia where I reside now. I always wondered what so many Indian students doing here where Sarnia is mostly populated by white Canadians. Sarnia is well known for its oil industries and there is almost nothing for IT here. Obviously, every office nowadays would need an IT/Windows admin and/or WEB admin. But that's all.

From my experience, I've seen those people shine in IT who are damn good in programming/web design/architect despite their result in schools. Here, it seems like you're looking for just admin job in IT field, well for that matter, your choice may not be the worst. But if you have high hopes and want to explore the vast and dynamic world of IT/Telecom; you should consider other options. Like a PG in University or in a better college. Getting an IT degree from Lambton College and then competing with rest of Canada would be pretty difficult especially when Toronto/GTA has most IT companies.

hello tiger! :)

your answer to all the questions are really helpful, could you give me some idea about schools in edmonton alberta which offers quality education at the same time lower tuition fee.. thank you and god bless!

about my education background i'm a graduate of bachelor of arts in mass communication (4 year course) and under graduate of bachelor of science in hotel and restaurant management in the philippines, I also came from US for last june 2011 because I joined the work and travel program which is being offered by USA for international students and they are giving opportunity to experience the life and how to work in US during their summer break.

i hope you'll respond to my question.. thanks again for helping all of us :)

Hi,

Edmonton, Alberta is a very good place to live and study. There's abundance of jobs and a booming oil based economy of Alberta. Of all educational institutes, for higher level univ. education - Univ. of Alberta stands out. It is 1 of the best university in Canada.
other notable educational institutes include - NAIT , Macewan Univ., Norquest college.

Apart from these.. selected degrees from Concordia univ college of Alberta and the King's univ. college. are also being offered in Edmonton.
Tuition fees are more or less same for international students. You need to check individual university and college websites of these above educational institute, select a programme of your choice, check fees, deadlines..and apply.

Best of Luck

HI,

You have good academic and work ex record. I highly reccomend you to appear for GMAT (score min. 550 for admission to average schools) and get admission in a good MBA programme. Infact, you look a bit overqualified for PG certificate/diploma programme in Canadian colleges. Nevertheless, you can try applying there.

Best of Luck.

Yes true Tiger you are absolutely right about it. And I really wish to go for some good master program. But I do not sufficient funds at this moment in time to pursue Master program since they cost you 25-29K and then you have to show 12k for living expense so in all I need to have around 40-42k in my account which by no mean in is possible for me to manage at this moment in time. And If I go for like PGC/PGD I can manage funds upto 27k that is the only problem. But do you think my chaces will be toooo low if I apply for PGD/PDC?? ans is there difference b/w PGD/PGC ?? PLease reply ASAP,Thanks Tiger.

No one does a Masters (M.Sc or M.A.Sc) with full tuition. PG students manage their tuition and living from research-ship, TA/RA-ship and multiple scholarships. If you apply for research-based Masters program and manage few of the advantages above, your 27K bank statement may be good enough for Visa.

But MBA would cost lot more and it's all from your pocket.

Hi,

There are also low cost- high quality MBA's like that in Memorial university, where tuition costs ONLY 6,000$/full programme approx. And living costs you need as per CIC 10,000$/ year. But international students often manage 2 years(actual 16-18 months of study depending upon different programmes) with 10,000$- 12,000$ and supplement remaining living costs by working part time or bagging a paid co-op. And add 2-4k $ for airfare, settlement..and other misc. expenses. So..you see.. it is possible to complete your MBA in less than 25,000$! Not to mention a number of scholarships/assistantships are available too.

Then there are MBA programmes which are 1 year long (actual 12-14 months), which will cost you nearly same or a little more than your budget for PG courses. There are quiet a few MBA programmes which costs 20-25k$ for full MBA programme.

Even, if it's not Memorial... yet, it's better to get a score of 550+ in GMAT, get into a good MBA, by taking educational loan. It will be a good investment in long run... even if you spend 35-40k$..rather than spending 27k$ on PG certificate/diploma course. There are other comparatively cheaper universities too... you just got to go through all university websites, and check MBA admissions requirement, fees, deadlines and apply. Given your profile..I strongly suggest..you go for MBA.

PG college courses are usually certificates.. ranging form 30-36 credits per year. Most PG business college courses are certificates, offered by Ontario based colleges, luring desi/international students...as an easier way to enter Canada on student visa, who don't mind compromising in the quality of education..as for them.. getting a PGWP and PR is sole agenda. Again.. there are exceptions... there are few comparatively good colleges/courses and people with strong will, skills and networking abilities do make it to an actual skilled job. PG diploma..in business.. are usually offered by lower rung universities such as TRU etc. They charge exorbitant fees for it. There's a 1 year PG diploma(60+ credits) in IB (international business) offered by Red River College, Manitoba..which has good reputation..and comparatively a better course than most of these college PG certificate programmes.

But seriously... anything less than a good MBA for you (given your academic marks and work experience).. will be a tragedy. You should atleast try to get into average/just average MBAs like that in Edwards School of Business, Univ. of Sask or MBA at univ. of Regina. You got to take the longer route...of cracking GMAT, and applying for a MBA programme.
Rest upto you.

To get idea about costs and entry requirements of different MBA's in Canada, see:

Best of luck

Tiger you are really a TIGER......You are simply aweosme......I highly appreciate how you replied to all my queries. Yes I am ready to take up the challenge and prepare myself for GMAT and try scoring 600+ so I may have better chances in admission into some good university. And one more thing I would like to ask is doing MBA after MBA is that make sense explaining CIC for visa. No doubt the quality of education and experience from Canadian university will be exceptionally high. Please comment on this. And also if PGD from university as you mention TRU is better than doing PGD from college. I will also check out the red river college Manitoba. God I am running out of time I guess...and please any one can guide about GMAT prepation and book I can follow for better prepartion. Bundles of Thanks Tiger +1.

Hi,

You have very good academic record. I don't understand.. why people with such good scores want to pursue college level course first ! Do try for Master degree courses in Canadian universities. I mean..if one has low score in B.Tech, OK then I get it.. since one is not eligible to apply for Master degree courses in Universities, so... they go for college. But..in your case..with such good marks.. it will be downright foolish to pursue college level simple certificate(pursued after 10th std.) or simple diploma(pursued after 12th). Not to mention, chances of getting visa on diploma or certificate will be very low (due to course/level of study mismatch) but not impossible. So..try for Master degrees 1st. And since you are talking about SIASY in Sask., do you know that.. doing Masters form any of the 2 universities in Saskatchewan - Univ. of Sask. or Univ. of Regina will make you eligible for direct PR? There are many universities across Canada. Only..if you see that you are not getting admission to any of the universities Master programme, only then.. you apply for PG level certificate/diploma programmes in colleges. Go through each individual university website, and find appropriate Master degree in your field of study. Here's the exhaustive list of all universities and colleges, listed province wise participating in OCWP.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/participants.asp

thanks tiger for the prompt reply. cheers to that :)
now i'm strongly considering universities too for admission after your reply...though the main aim for canada is PR which can be achieved with college too :p

I wanna ask-
does canadian university require GRE ??? i have not given GRE but have given IELTS with 7.0 overall..

also with my profile can i get admission in university of toronto??
thanks and reply soon :)

Best of Luck.

Hi,
Yes, PR can also be achieved by studying in colleges. But why would you want to study a college PG certificate and limit your career opportunities when you can pursue a Master in engineering from a Canadian university and have greater opportunities? You go to think on that.

After academic marks and IELTS, the most important thing are extra works such as relevant work ex (if any in engineering), publishing papers(if any - especially for Masters which are research based) and ofcourse a strong SOP, on which an applicant is assessed. Canadian universities DO NOT require GRE. However, I believe, there is no harm in submitting an extra GRE score with your application, as it will make your case stronger.. ONLY if the score is very good or above average. Submitting a low/below average or even average GRE score will only do more harm than good.

Univ. of Toronto now huh? Till now you were ready to do PG certificate in college... now you want Univ. of Toronto? ;) Hard to say... but with 79.5% and IELTS 7.. you can very well apply and see. There may be a good chance for you to get into 1 year course based Meng. in Electrical and computer engineering. You never know! http://www.gradschool.utoronto.ca/programs/Graduate_Units/Electrical___Computer_Engineering.htm

However, since you have so good marks as well as PR is your aim, I highly reccomend you to apply for Meng. or MAsc. in Saskatchewan based universities - Univ. of Sask. or Univ. of Regina. Next try to apply for Ontario based good universities. There are many many universities. You can try for n number of their programmes. If cost is a major factor.. try to get admissions to Meng./Masc. programmes in Memorial univ., Newfoundland. those getting admission to their research based Meng. programmes get assured full funding.
Or if you can take up the challenge to learn intermediate level French/DELF B1 along with your 1-2 years Masters degree in Quebec based universities (Mcgill or Concordia), then I would say..go for Master in these universities, as getting CSQ and PR is easiest in Quebec, for Master degree holders who have intermediate level French /DELF B1. They get direct CSQ in 20 days..no conditions whatsoever. And 1-2 years is more than enough time to learn DELF B1 level French.

Best of Luck.

Hi,

I'm not sure what's the Manila CHC/Canadian embassy in Philippines has rules in place for giving out Study Permit... but here in India.. if one applies for a diploma in a different field.. has no previous background to the course applied for, his/her visa will most probably be rejected. So.. I suggest you find out what exactly are ground rules/ rules usually followed by applicants and consultancies for applying to get a Canadian study permit. Do a through research, before applying for a particular course. Since, you have a BSc in Hotel mgmt., you may get visa for a culinary arts diploma, provided you give a good and clear SOP and mention strong reasons for you wanting to study it..like career growth etc.

Getting PR depends on fulfilling specific requirements for different student immigration programmes. To know more about various student immigration programmes see this older thread:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/various-immigration-programmes-for-international-students-in-canada-t100908.0.html

Culinary arts at NAIT-Edmonton,Alberta is 1 of highly reputed programme. Alternatively, culinary programmes at Niagara college-Niagara falls, Ontario, SAIT-Calgary, Alberta, NSCC- Nova Scotia, George Brown- Toronto etc. are also reputed among public colleges.

Yes, tuition international means.. the tuition fees applicable for international students. Apart form that.. you may need to pay various other student fees. And of course there's cost for books & supplies, living expenses and airfare, settlement and other miscellaneous expenses.

Best of Luck.
