Hello
we are tunisians and we are planning to move permanently to Canada (Calgary) in March
My husband and Son (13 months )have canadian citizenships, and I got my visa and my permanent residence status.

well, my husband used to live in Ottawa and then he came to Tunisia , we got married and lived for 2 years and now we will travel in march to calgary;I have few questions :
1- I hold a master degree in English from a Tunisian university , what kind of jobs could I find there ?, i have a teaching experience + an experience as a social media conceptualizer.
2- My husband hols an MBA degree from UQAM and the CMA title, but he has been unlucky finding a good job, any advice ?
3- Any idea about the cost of renting an appartement in calgary ?
4- Any Idea about the cost of daycares ?
5 - Is it all year long snowing in calgary ?
6- what is the safest part to live in in calgary ?

Any advice ?

Thank You

1. Is the first language in Tunisia English? if not then you may have redo your English from a Canadian university. Unfortunately your teaching experience will not be recognized in Canada you may have some luck with your work experience in social media.
2. What does UQAM stand for? never heard of it, if it aint Canadian "keep calm and carry on" searching for jobs
3. No idea but maybe someone from Calgary can give you an idea, my guess would be $1100 for a 1 bedroom in a fairly descent neighbourhood
4. Cost of daycares would be about $1000 to $1500 per month
5. No, May to October is no snow
6. I haven't lived in Calgary so someone who has lived there can better advise you

Depends where you want to live and how many bedrooms you want. It can go from 1000 for a single bedroom to 1300 for two bedrooms and 1600 for three bedrooms.

The problem are not the prices, the problem is the vacancy. Too many people are moving in to Calgary and there are not many places to rent. Finding a decent place to rent is hell, landlords know that they can treat you like cattle because they can get away with it, too many people applying for a single apartment encourages high prices regardless of the maintenance and treatment. I have seen up to 50 people applying for the same apartment in a 2 hours gap. Its crazy.

Uh? You are planning to live in a city that you don't even know how the climate is? Really? You should really dig deeper.

Are you implying Calgary has "not safe" zones?

1. Service jobs in restaurants and groceries (until you get local education).
2. Your husband has a realistic chance to get an accounting job, but it will likely be a clerical one at the beginning (assistant accountant)
3. Average is 1250$ for a two bed, but for this "small" amount you will have to stay either in a basement or in a very rough area in North East. Very hard to find a place here - if you do not have a secure job, your applications in decent places are likely to be rejected. My company hired a consultant to find me a place and even after 1 month I did not find anything decent - ended up in a 1-bed flat in the middle of nowhere with horrible public transit for almost 1500$ A month.
4-no.
5. No - they have a pretty decent summer here. It was +20C just last week. Snow lies for about 5 months but it snows less than in Montreal.
6. SOuth west and North west are quite safe. North East is rough (but cheaper).

If I was you, I would rather stay in Montreal especially because your husband already has Quebec education. Whatever you earn here will be wasted for rent + except downtown core the place is deserted + public transit is limited to just a few neighborhoods so both of you will need cars (another cost). The purchasing power of your salaries will be higher in Montreal. My salary in Montreal was three times lower than here but I managed to save every month. Here I am not saving even a bit.
