Hey, my spouse and I are currently based in Warsaw, Poland - but our marriage certificate and some of her documents are in Ukrainian.

Does anyone know of a notary/sworn translator who can make certified true copies in Warsaw for documents that are not in Polish?

Thank you very much :)

Have you actually contacted any notaries/certified translators/translation bureaux? I can't speak for everywhere, but if they can't deal with a specific language themselves, they should/most likely will refer you to another or offer to arrange it.

Translators/bureaux refer and make such arrangements all the time. It might be harder if it was an obscure language, but Ukrainian shouldn't be in Poland.

(There may also be an association or agency that keeps lists of translators by language)

I managed to find a notary who could create a notarial copy of non-polish documents; however they printed the certification of it being a true copy on the back of the copy. I am hoping this is ok, I will have both sides of the copy translated from Ukrainian/Polish to English by a sworn translator now.

That's totally standard.

That's very reassuring to hear, thanks @armoured, I was worried that the certification must be stamped on the front similar to how it's done in Canada.

Strange Canadians don't even bind it all together with string, either ).

In this respect, Canada is usually pretty good about accepting whatever the 'local best practice' is. Generally, anyway. (Some countires require it all be done through Ministry of Interior or Justice or something and I understand that is very painful and slow)

Actually come to think of it, I kind of glossed over/forgot about an issue you've already resolved (it seems). In some countries notaries won't make a true copy attestation for foreign language documents (or even witness the signing of a foreign language document). That's a local law issue of what notaries are allowed to do. Sounds like you found the solution to that, anyway - congratulations.

Yeah most notaries have that policy here. I think you can work around it (in Poland at least) by having a sworn translator present and orally verifying/translating the foreign document - our backup plan was to try that out.

Luckily, I also found a sworn translator in the city that handles multiple translations to one language, so I can have the Ukrainian marriage certificate with a Polish notary certification translated all into English

Hey, we had a notary in our apartment block make certified true copies for us and then we used a company called "translators family" in Warsaw to make translations of everything (including any notary certifications). Most notaries in Warsaw will not make true copies of documents that are not in Polish, so you'll have to call in advance to ask.

I recently had to get some documents true copied for work, not for immigration, and found a notary in Warsaw who is also a sworn translator and can do everything at the same time. If you google "Szymon Krzyszczuk notary" you'll find his office, it's near the center of Warsaw. I can highly recommend him, you'll save a bunch of time.

Good luck
