Hi I have a work permit based on permanent LMIA but on that document it says: "This does not authorize re-entry". I own a Brazilian passport with valid US visitor Visa and valid Canadian eTA.
Going back home to visit in May and now I'm wondering if i require any additional visa (temporary resident etc) to get back into the country? Thank you.
No issue there, no worries.
It's there to emphasize that the work permit is NOT a visa or any form of guarantee that you will enter Canada. Because many people mistake it for an actual visa, and get refused entry or boarding when they come up with just that. A
visa is different from a
permit.
It's NOT a travel authorization either, hence the need for a visa or eTA.
It's just to show border agent that you're allowed to work inside Canada.
Your situation will still be assessed by a border agent, just like all previous entries in Canada.
In other words, you got your eTA which allows you to travel and come up to the border agent counter to "ask" for permission to entry. When you state "work" as reason of travel, and asked for authorization, that's when the work permit comes in to prove you're allowed to work.
But you can't use just that to come to Canada. That's what it means.
Hope I make sense.
