bunny82 said:Hi everyone. We were told that it is $550 to file off the immigration family class package (me sponsoring my husband). Is it exactly $550? Should it be a check? And if so, who should the check be made out to?
Thanks.

The RPRF must be paid before they will approve the application and issue the COPR. You will also potentially introduce an extra delay in processing when they put your application on hold, pending receipt of the RPRF payment. Your choice...bunny82 said:Hi Ponga, thanks!
Well, I didn't know how it was done, I was just assuming that you include a check in the package when you send it. So, since this can only be done online, I assume only a credit card can be used? When paying, do I have to include any info, like, who the application is for and any kind of application file number, or anything like that?
We were only told that we have to pay the $550 now. We won't be paying the other portion until he gets his PR. We don't have the money right now and we were told by a consultant that people don't pay that until later. I hope it will be fine.
Also, how should this be mailed? I remember reading posts in the past about people's stuff getting lost and that there was a certain way to mail this to ensure it would be get there and be fine.
Thanks!![]()

Yes. The application is not finally finished until the applicant lands in Canada and has the COPR signed. That will not happen until the RPRF is paid. In fact, they will not issue the COPR at all until it is. Get a new consultant?bunny82 said:Zardoz, are you sure? The consultant who has been helping with our application told me the $490 is not due until the application is approved.

Payment of the RPRF will be required before issuance of the permanent resident visa for applications processed at visa offices or the permanent resident record for applicants in Canada. Each contact with the applicant should include a reminder that the RPRF is required, and that the visa will not be issued or the client will not become a permanent resident, as the case may be, until payment is received. It should also be emphasized that early payment of the RPRF will avoid delays in finalizing the processing of the application for those classes where it is appropriate, such as priority family class cases. Other cases, such as family class sponsorships of parents and grandparents, where the processing time is known to be long, RPRF instructions specify that the client should wait to pay RPRF until contacted by CIC.
