I think even before COVID, if you have a COPR, they would still say it does not guarantee entry into Canada, just because they always leave the final decision to the border agents. I might be wrong though...
Yes that's true but I haven't heard of anyone denied entry.. have you heard of any cases.. i wanna know possible reasons

Hey Guys,

I took a look at the "Find out if you can enter Canada" again a few days ago, and I noticed this:

To the question "How do you plan on entering Canada?", I see the option :
"from the United States (including connections, so long as you enter Canada from the U.S.) "

Is that new ?
I feel like before it was talking about being US citizen or resident, but now there's nothing about that. I don't remember any mention of connections before... Can't say for sure though.

Then the result is:

"You indicated that you are:

  • a foreign national
  • not showing signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19
  • coming from the United States
  • an approved permanent resident not yet in Canada
Based on your answers, you will likely be allowed to enter Canada; however, the final determination will be made by a government official at the port of entry.

You must be coming to Canada to settle permanently."

Does that mean we can just take a flight to Canada that includes a connection to US and we're good to go ?? It seems too good to be true...

Also, I was wondering if having a COPR (post march) and Canadian work contract can be enough to be allowed in ? Without having to go through the work permit process ?

Any opinion on the above @legalfalcon ?

Thanks
This is only for residents of U.S. and not foreign nationals entering US to come to Canada.

Thank you for your answer, but are you certain ? I mean there is no mention of being resident of the U.S. in this page anymore, and I'm pretty sure it used to be specified. So I wonder why they removed it if it still only concerns U.S. residents...

On the main page for the travel exemptions, there is only mentioned :
All other foreign nationals
To be eligible, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • You must be travelling directly from the US for a non-discretionary purpose.
  • You must be exempt from the travel restrictions and be travelling for a non-discretionary purpose.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/travel-restrictions-exemptions.html#other

Again, I think it might have been mentioned "US citizen/resident" there before...

When it clearly says "travelling directly from the US" this is plain and simple and will not include if you are a foreign national who lands in the US, stays there for a 2-3 days and then decides to move to Canada.

If you have doubts, you can call CBSA or try it out.

Hi, everyone.

I had my COPR expired on 31 March 2021, and it was issued back in sep 20.

Yesterday my application status changed and as per the application main page my background and eligibility are being reviewed and that some documents, ( although haven't yet received any email asking for any docs) are required but not the medical. Any body has any idea as to what this means.

My VO is London UK

Regards

Hello fellow members of the forum,

I got an email today from IRCC (donnotreply@ircc). It stated that there's an update in my application.
I logged in and I saw, the application has been re-opened again(status - Submitted[]) and the Application status now says,
"We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you."

The background check status says,
"We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information."

There's no re-medical request, there's no document request.

Anyone else who got this update in their application.

Application approved/PPR request - November 2019
PPR/CoPR - Decmber 2019
CoPR expired - April 2020
Surviving - April 2020 - Present

i also read on this thread that someone got an acknowledgement within a week of submitting the response. so looks like they're responding randomly? i'll wait another week or so before raising a webform. please let me know if you or your friend hear anything back.
I got an email from IRCC this morning saying my application has been updated.

The application status now says, "We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information from you." I guess there may be a medical/NOC request next hopefully.

Any update from your side?
