Hi all,

I'm in the process of gathering documents together to apply for PR Sponsorship under common-law. It is my understanding that cohabitation continuously for one year is extremely important. My partner (PR) and I each have trips back to our country amounting of 20 days and 14 days. Other than one trip each person, we have been living together the whole time. I couldn't find any specific threads that people were rejected due to trips. Can you guys tell me if this is a big deal?

Thanks in advance!

You should be OK. It's up to the visa officer processing the file to decide what constitutes a break in cohabitation. Generally speaking, it seems like VOs use the three week mark - i.e. if you're away from each other for more than three week this is a break in continuous cohabitation and you must start the one year calculation from scratch. If your longest absence from each other was 20 days - then you should be OK.

Thanks for your reply. That gives me more confidence for sure!

Hi scylla, I noticed that I actually have another trip that I went on to visit my parents who were visiting in the US for about 3 days. Should this render any problems? Thanks
