Hello guys , does anyone know the answer to this situation?

My neighbour here in Canada , applied for his partner who lives in Syria under the family sponsorship class - as conjugal partners. They have had a strong relationship for 5 years .
She got both federal and provincial approval in Quebec.
However when the file was transferred to the Canadian embassy in Jordan about 14 months ago , nothing happened since، no response no new no updates and no replies.
He recently managed to go to Syria to get married to her . But he can't stay there so he came back to Montreal.

WHAT happens if he updated her status on the application to married. ?
will they ask him to sumbit the whole thing again from zero ? Or can they just modify the status ?
is it possible to continue the application with change of status from conjugal to married ?

thank you all

I would suggest writing to the visa office (direct and webform) explaining and providing copy of the wedding certificate (with translation etc) - explain also the reason why whatever barrier to marriage was resolved.

I don't think it will be possible to 'change the application' type to married. But it's possible they would take this evidence into account and proceed further with the app.

If your neighbour wants to get more certainty, suggest he contact a lawyer. It's not clear on what basis your friend claimed conjugal status (inability to travel to get married?) - anyway seems resolved now.

It might be advisable for him to prepare a new application (and keep copies of necessary docs) - in case he should decide it will be preferable to withdraw the existing app and apply anew. (This based entirely on possiblity - no idea whether remote or not - that he discovers conjugal will take too long or be refused on some technicality)
