Why not fly to the United States (one of the states that allows same-sex unions that is) and then get married? It is easier to prove compared to Common-Law and immensely easier then Conjugal. It is up to you, but you can get married in almost all locations that permit same-sex marriages and Canada will generally accept it.

I second this!

The 5 year ban only applies to PR's who were sponsored as a spouse, have divorced/separated from their sponsor and wish to sponsor someone else.

It sounds like the poster became a PR through other means (could you clarify that however?) So the ban would not apply.

Oops, you're right! Sorry for spreading incorrect info :)

Hi All,

Thanks for the inputs. I just have my VISA and I'm thinking we are fit in a conjugal sponsorship.
However, we do sleepovers when we travel together, but we haven't live together in one house for a continuously 1 year, this because we have responsibilities in each others family and plus the fact that my father does not accept me as a lesbian that's why.. we'll be trying to apply for a TRV early next year and let's see if CIC will give us the opportunity to be together..
This is called "dating" not a marriage like relationship.
For god's sake, don't you want to marry her and have a strong case for immigration?
Having you living in Canada, which is one of few countries in the world that accepts same sex marriage makes your case so much weaker as conjugal partners if she can visit you in Canada.

Hello,

sorry to insert this forum, but i also need some advice, coz i am also confused and have some question to ask if you guys have some knowledge.

i am here in Canada right now ,been here since 2011, i have a girlfriend , shes in philippines right now, weve been together since 2013 and now were in relationship for 7years plus.

so now i am going to sponsor her as a conjugal catergory, again were both discreet both sides of the family, but i think im pretty sure they have some hint that we have a relationship. close friends knows us, that we have a relationship, i supported her financially, we have lots to probe that our relationship is genuine, we have joint account since 2014, i sent her some gifts ,and she sent me some letters,we travel together in some islands in the Philippines, Tickets etc. we have a holy union certificate, we got married(like) in the philippines but we knew its not legal but as to show in the future that our relationship is true and genuine..

my question is, is there any chance to approve my application for her to come here with me and live together and get recognize, i cant be with her in a year coz im stil PR and im stil waiting my citizenship result for a exam. first thing also is it really needed to let her come here in canada to apply tourist visa and maybe get deny and using that as a proof?

i read some of here about immigration barrier / need to apply TRV for at least to show about the barrier.

I really appreciate the response.

Thank you

Be Safe you all.

What are the chances that we get approve even if we are not legally "out" to our families? We both came from a very conservative families.
