I did forget to mention I think I fall into the Skilled workers and professionals category (NOC2282 I think), my only issue being that I cannot find pre arranged work to apply for that visa and obtain enough points.
FSW will start accepting applications from applicants without job offers on May 4th. Downside is that there will be a flood of applications and you'll need to submit yours immediately to have any hope of being accepted. If you want to go this route, you should start preparing your application now (this includes taking an English test which is mandatory for all applicants).

"Get married!" That we have considered. Which way round is best? In the UK and then move back to Canada as a same sex partnership and continue with the sponsorship route?
If you did this Canada would not permit you to apply under the spouse sponsorship so you are back to needing to live together for 12 months. They do not recognise same sex civil ceremonies at the moment but as I am sure you are aware, with the current bill going through in the UK, it should mean Canada recognises civil partnerships that opt to be recognised as marriage, as marriage. Unlikely to happen before the end of the year though.

If you do it in Holland for example, Canada will recognise it and allow spouse sponsorship.

Depending on your job and where you intend to land you could look into the pnp program. I don't know a lot about it but maybe worth looking in to.

Live in the uk and work for 6 months. Go to canada and visit for 6 months. Effectivly take it in turns to support each other then apply!

It is a long road. But you also only at the beginning of your relationship.

Good luck!
Maybe this is the way forward. Not so rushed and no one can accuse us of being in a marriage of convenience.
Thank you Gary, all of your advice is appreciated. Hope you get your PR soon!

Its crazy that I need to pay £140 to prove I can speak, read and write a language that I have been using for the past 33 years! I see why they do it though. Am I right in saying that anything you claim points for, you have to prove?
Can I also confirm in case I'm reading this wrong, if I get in in time in May, I won't need a pre arranged job offer to qualify? Is there anywhere on the CIC website that I can read more about this option?

Ok, that I did not know! I thought same sex civil partnership ceremonies where as good as a marriage ceremony for legal purposes. I will be paying much more to parliament discussions for a while!
Thank you.

They are in the UK but Canada does not recognise it as such. I believe because the name used does not contain marriage. When it becomes law in the UK, a civil partnership can be known as marriage without a ceremony and Canada, I would imagine, will then recognise it for immigration purposes. We have beenin a CP for 6 years and are applying as common law. Applicable countries are

You can apply to sponsor your same-sex partner as a spouse if:

you are a Canadian citizen and permanent resident and
you were married in Canada and issued a marriage certificate by a Canadian province or territory on or after the following dates:

Manitoba (on or after September 16, 2004)
New Brunswick (on or after July 4, 2005)
Newfoundland and Labrador (on or after December 21, 2004)
Nova Scotia (on or after September 24, 2004)
Ontario (on or after June 10, 2003)
Quebec (on or after March 19, 2004)
Saskatchewan (on or after November 5, 2004)
Yukon (on or after July 14, 2004)
all other provinces or territories (on or after July 20, 2005).
If you were married outside Canada, you may apply to sponsor your same-sex partner as a spouse as long as the marriage is legally recognized according to both the law of the place where the marriage occurred and under Canadian law. This applies to same-sex marriages performed in the following jurisdictions:
