I applied for pr trough
The Ottawa office. My fiancé lives in Canada and is sponsoring me an American.
When do they ask for your passport? My application has been changed to decision made, will thy ask me to send it for stamping? What is stamping? Sorry I'm trying to understand this complicated process

To add: I have not heard what my final decison is - just wait to be contacted.

Good news...decision made after passport sending mean your visa is stamped on your passport so chill out now just wait 2 3 days to have your pp back with visa

If you are American, you will probably not even need to send your passport. People from visa-exempt countries generally do not need to send their passport. The reason they ask for the passport is to "stamp" (usually more like a sticker) a single-entry visa into the passport so that the person can travel to Canada. If you don't need a visa, you will likely only receive the COPR in the mail, which you present at the border when you land as a PR>

I suspect that the Americans who get asked the most for their passport copy are applicants who are female and took their husband's last name (as indicated in the marriage certificate) but the passport copy they sent in the application is still in their maiden name. That leads the case officer to believe that there is a chance that her passport may have been updated with her new name and they ask for another copy to see.

I received a passport request on September 3rd. They did not ask for the physical passport, just a scanned copy to be emailed back. I think this is pretty common if your from a visa exempt country like the US. Just make sure that the address on your passport is up to date and let the CIC know of any changes to your address so that there is no confusion.

No, not yet unfortunately. As of now, my status is still "Application received" even though I got my PPR 20 days ago. Its different for every applicant. Some receive their COPR within a week, others wait a month or two. It depends on the case worker and visa office. Also, applications aren't necessarily processed in order. If I were to ask all the applicants who sent theirs in on the same day I did, they would all have completely different statuses. I know some that already have their COPR while others haven't even gotten their PPR yet. Hopefully you get yours sooner then later though.

It took my wife about 33 days to get to DM after PPR. Her eCAS never updated to PPR, it stayed on Application Received then to Decision Made.
